#42 has been retired by ALL major league teams (in honor of Jackie Robinson).

Mariano Rivera still wears it. All #42 wearers were grandfathered in when this rule came into effect and he's the only one still playing. But it will be retired by the Yankees when Mo retires. So interestingly, the greatest closer of all time will never have his number retired (in his own honor).

If Jackie Robinson isn't the answer for the most [assuming he's disqualified since its by baseball and not the teams individually] I'd guess Nolan Ryan maybe ['Stros, Rangers, Angels?] Just a guess.

Number 42 for Jackie Robinson was a league-wide retirement. Is that where you were going with this one?

no, not #42, should have specified that.

#2-I mean which number (1-99) has been retired the most.

Which uniform number has been retired by the most teams?

I would guess that is the #1 - seven teams have it retired, including our own Cincinnati Reds.

Sorry, let me change that to which 3 players have had 2 numbers retired? Forgot Fisk

BTW, in reviewing the list I was checking (is that cheating?), I noticed something we discussed some weeks ago - players who played prior to the use of numbers being honored (e.g. Christy Mathewson, John McGraw). I think we ought to start a movement for the Reds to retire "the number" of Edd Roush.
