GCL Reds were rained out.

Travis Wood is pitching tonight and sent them down in order in the first on a strikeout and two groundouts.

Bruce just hit his 28th double.

Votto singled in his first atbat.

Wood: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 9 GO/2 FO

Wood has matched the success of Ward and Cueto again. That rotation is just filthy right now. And Carlos Fisher ain't too bad either.

If my math is correct (and that's often a big assumption), Wood has just dropped below a 3.00 ERA, with a 2.89. Not too shabby for a 19-year-old in Low A.

BTW, that's three starters in Dayton with ERA's lower than 3.00, with a couple more close.

This helps me see why the Reds chose an offensive player this year. (Though I still disagree with it.)

Wood, to me, has been kind of ignored, considering the outstanding seasons of Bailey, Cueto, and Ward. Last year's bonus baby de jour, he's largely been forgotten.

Too, Bruce is now at .299 BA. For what it's worth.

According to MILB.com box score Wood has a 3.07 ERA after tonights 7 scoreless innings.

My guess is because Wood doesn't have the "ideal" power stuff or frame. He has been compared to Sowers.

Wood throws a bit harder than does Sowers....and he is just 19. Where did you see he was compared to Sowers?

I thought it was Dayton's manager that compared him to Sowers, though I may be mistaken. But he generally is around that 88-91 range with a plus plus changeup like Sowers, so I would say a comparison with Sowers wouldn't be to off.

I would take this years scouting report over last years.

Carlos Almanzar sighting in Louisville.

Gives up a double to the hot-hititng Phil Dumatrait, then seems to be throwing Rick White-esque fastballs to just about anyone else who wants to take a swing or two.

Nice game for Phil, though 1 K isn't too hot. There's no way this guy doesn't get called up sometime within a month or two.

Moran is 2-4 for the Lookouts tonight and extends his hit streak to 9! All that guy does is hit.

Bruce is now up over .300 and leads the minors in XBH. Not bas.
