Possibly the best prospect in the system closest to the majors, Phil Dumatrait is having a great season so far pitching in both AA Chatt. and AAA Louisville.

Height: 6-2 Weight: 170 Bats: R Throws: L
Born on July 12, 1981 in Bakersfield, CA
High School: Ridgeview (Bakersfield,CA)
College: Bakersfield Junior College
Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2000 draft at #21 overall
Traded in 2003 with Tyler Pelland to the Reds for Scott Williamson

Scouting Report: Dumatrait has an athletic build, possessing a plus 80 MPH curveball and an 87-92 MPH two-seam fastball that he keeps out of the strike zone. Because he likes to work off of the plate, hitters rarely can get a good swing. He isn't real efficient with his pitches and has had trouble utilizing his 80 MPH change-up effectively, but has the aptitude to get it done. Missed entire 2004 season with a torn rotator cuff.

Is there anyway to get some righty lefty splits? I see him becoming a loogy after after the allstar break if they are good...

I'd almost try him for a couple of starts - but IIRC, he got rocked a few times in ST.

Thanks for the update HBP

if he has 2 to 3 more quality starts in a row and claussen comes back and gets rocked, why not try him? hes calmed down a lot the past 3 or 4 starts... couldnt hurt to give him an audition
