I'd say Harang is a great #3 or a not very good #2. Kind of between the two roles. Needless to say, I'd love to try to snag an ace for this staff, then we'd have one of the best staffs in the league.

A sub 3.5ERA now, around 4.00era when the season ends, it wouldn't take much and Harang is going through a "uptick" right now. The guy is a 3. Literally. Accept that and stop trying to turn him into what he is not.

Would that be his 3.7 era over his last 400+ innings that would give you that indication?
Don't let the stats cloud your view though, things like ERA, K's, K/BB's are merely random. Your gut feel might be a much better indication.
I'd love to see all those #2's ahead of Aaron, let alone #3s.

Between Mercker, who is throwing batting practice, and Lopez, who fails repeatedly to make the big play, this game has become sickening.

By the way, this is why RA is playing third base. Reds want some measure of defensive competence on the left side of the infield.

I posted awhile back that the 16 games before the all-star break were a real opportunity for this team. They are in the process of blowing it.

This wasn't Mercker's fault. A ball didn't leave the infield against him. He got a nubber, a routine grounders that went through because the infield was in, a double play, and a nubber to first.

Narron left Harang in 2 batters to long, then he brought the infield in.

We've seen the Belisle/Shackelford act the last few nights. The Hall of Fame is not exactly getting the busts ready.

Frankly, I would have gone with Yan myself. At least he throws hard.

The team has no bullpen. The shortstop never makes the tough play in big spots. That's not Narron's fault.

The team's pitching resurgence in just overrated. They now have about four and a half decent pitchers. There is a long way to go.

I agree. Harang should have been on a tight rein after getting hit hard the last inning. After the first guy got on (even if it was a dribbler), he should have been out of there..

But Narron doesn't like to "waste" pitchers on a 1/3 of an inning... The logic was a righty there, but he was thinking lefty vs. Jenkins and Fielder all the way.
