James has been real good since being thrown into the rotation. Then the Cards head to Houston so Pujols can add 3 more HR's to his total and so the Cards can split the series

Mays vs. Hudson tomorrow night. How bout that matchup? Is that even fair? We should get a few extra outs to even it up a little bit. If there ever was a game that we were supposed to lose I would think it would be this one. But you never know, crazier things have happened. By the way we've played lately, I'd be thrilled with a split against the Braves.

Pitch nearly hit him. Blame the idiot who called a squeeze with someone who never bunts.

There is no excuse for a major league player to not know how to bunt. It doesn't matter where the ball is, on a squeeze you have to get the bat on the ball. It was the perfect time to call a squeeze.

biggergipper

i am starting to believe that there must be a hidden message in Narron's insistence on using Merker and Weathers. Is is a secret code? Is he just running those guys out there to prove a point? I would suggest perhaps using the pitchers with lowest ERA's in games that are close or tied...

gilpdawg
07-05-2006, 10:37 PM
Mercker isn't the problem, Weathers is. Mercker hasn't been that bad other than a couple of outings. The first game in Milwaukee he got beat by an error and a couple of balls that fell in that weren't hit very hard. He's been throwing better lately, probably just getting over being hurt back in May.

And yeah, I hate the separate game threads. The game threads are my favorite place to post, (and where I get all my pos rep, due to my quick wit:D ) but now I can't post in a game thread that anybody actually reads. The only reason I wanna get called up to ORG is for the game thread.

gilpdawg

Here's a pet peeve of mine....why doesn't Yost bring in Turnbow here? Because it's not a save situation? There can't be a save situation now, you hold em, and you win it in the bottom of the inning. Stupid. All managers do it. If managers used their best relievers right, the save stat would be obsolete. Let's see here: You have Mariano Rivera. The score is 5-3. Would you
A:In the seventh or eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out, bring in Rivera.....or
B:Save him for the ninth inning that may never come because you may be losing the game if you bring in Joe Blow Middle Reliever?

If you chose B, you're a moron. :)

I love game threads too, but what is being done to this board is a travesty. I hope people like us can keep this board going for the newbies. They get no chance to be involved in good game threads. Game threads are what makes this board special and not having any ability to contribute to them does not cause newbies to want to stay. I am for inclusiveness.

We can make good game threads here. We have before, we will again. Let's not let this discourage us and make the gamethreads here the place to be. Then, all including newbies can have a voice. I like that much better than the current environment of exclusion.

Sorry guys...Coffey just doesn't have what it takes to be a closer. The Reds should have won 2 out of 3 in this series and he blows the leads before he can get an out in both games. I realize that he pitched the 9th tonight, but if you're a closer, you come back and shut the Brewers down after the offense gets you a lead in the top half of the 10th. The Reds' bullpen is embarassing. Is there a better way to describe it?

Back to setup role for Coffey. Put anybody in the closer role. Like I said earlier, nobody uses them correctly anyway, so it doesn't really matter. The setup guys usually get the most important outs anyway, and Coffey was thriving in that role.

Only problem with him I have is his misjudging of fly balls. You know the drill, "hit pretty good" as the shortstop and left fielder nearly collide going for the ball and "it'll stay in the park."

flynn78

am I just seeing things or does Yan have an upside down american flag on his hat???

I think I saw that too. Yesterday they were on the caps for the 4th, sometimes they don't think about it and wear the same hat. Patches fall off and he probably just mashed it back on. Happens quite often, as I have seen on ESPN Page 2 Column Uni Watch.
