Makes sense. Q offered very little. I'm not sure about Wise, but he certainly can't be any worse.

He tore apart double A, but hit 250 in AAA

I'm more happy about McCracken being gone than Wise being here. Wise may have had a nice spring and he's toolsy, but he's never had anything approaching success in the big leagues. He's also been pretty hit-or-miss in his minor-league record, too.

glad to see it too, I saw Q many times here in Durham in the minors over the years, and he was a complete prick, even as a nobody on a minor league team. I was dissapointed when we signed him, and am glad he is gone now!!! On top of it, he went to dook, so further reason to dislike him :)

dook? huh? Must be an anti-Duke thing or something.

Good move. Wise brings more to the table then Q does, and it is clear that Wayne wants Deno getting consistent at bats.

Nice move.

Wise is basically Reggie Taylor or Jason Romano minus the inevitable baserunning and defensive gaffes. Don't get any rosy shades on. Maybe Ed Armbrister is a good reference point as well (although Ed could take a walk and shoulderblock Carlton Fisk).

He does at least have the ability to hit the occasional homer, unlike Q. He's probably faster. But that's about it as far as "bringing more to the table", and on his best day he's going to make worse contact than McCracken.

Im surprised they didnt bring up someone like Germano for 1 or 2 games to pitch out of the bullpen after how much work the bullpen had last night. Then after those 1 or 2 games you could bring Wise up to replace him.

They may still bring up a relief pitcher for tonights game. Hopefully more moves are coming.

I know that I am in the minority but I don't think McCraken is that bad off the bench. He has struggled the year getting hits but seems to hit the ball hard in his limited playing time. I don't think this move will really matter in the long run.

Consider me in that minority. I don't see this move having much of an impact at all.

Having predicted this move three weeks ago (http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47496&highlight=Q%27s+Successor%3F), I'm glad to see Wise get the call.

No, he might not set the world on fire. But he is an improvement over Q in a few key respects:

* He can supply more left-handed power off the bench.
* He's a superior OF defender, having never committed an error in more than 600 innings of ML play, including time in LF, CF and RF.

This is a baby step, but it is a step in the right direction. Now, Wayne, about that bullpen...
