Why? He's the 30th man on the All-Star team. Does it really matter who gets that nod?

Pierzynski's having a pretty good season and thanks to his sterling postseason in 2005 he's got some star credentials.

For anyone who got snubbed, if you have a good multi-year run you should make an ASG or two. If a guy is a flash-in-the-pan who got left behind this season then it's hard for me to shed any tears over that.

Demanding one player from each team is the rule I'd like to see dropped from the whole affair.

Me too, especially if you're going to say the all-star game "counts" now.

I actually like the one player from every team rule, even though you do get the occasional Mark Redman. The only interest I have in the All Star Game this year is to see what Bronson Arroyo does. If there were no Reds in the game I wouldn't watch.

If they are going to foolishly latch the world series onto the allstar game then it matters who goes.

I agree. Baseball isn't stupid. Putting Redman in there probably picks up quite a few KC fans. That's the whole reason the fans vote as well. The AS game's primary goal is to get good ratings and make money. It's not really a battle of the "best of the best".

Plus, I'm afraid if you dropped the one member from every team rule, the teams would get stocked even heavier with Red Sox, Yankees, etc that already have plenty of representatives. I doubt it would help a guy like Phillips (or another guy that had a hot start, but no history).

His inclusion isn't as egregious as the exclusion of Pronk Hafner.

Egregious derives from Latin egregius, separated or chosen from the herd, from e-, ex-, out of, from + grex, greg-, herd, flock.
