Have you ever seen a hitter swing at a worse pitch than that? I honestly can't. I love Junior, but that was awful.
Griffey is always behind in the count, has no patience, seems to be always swinging for the fences. Dunn, on the other hand, has really improved his approach at the plate, is using the whole field, and the results are much better.
Doesn't the hitting coach ever talk to Griffey?

If he had Hatt's discipline, he'd be leading the league in walks, for sure. In my softball league, I'll never take a walk, because I want to hit a dinger or drive in a run with a hit. Great strategy for slow pitch softball. Not a good strategy for Major League Baseball.

Griffey's OBP is .304. That is terrible, particularly for a hitter of his caliber.
Onto the next subject. Coffey has nothing these days. It started when he was made closer, but has continued. Is he hurt? I don't know what the problem is but right now he should be throwing mop up until he improves.

His command is just gone. He's getting everything up in the zone and his fastball simply isn't impressive enough to do that and get away with it. Earlier in the year it looked like Coffey had some idea of where his stuff was going to end up in the Catcher's mitt. Now it's ending up in or over the Outfield.

Actually, here's one where I will blast Narron. Team comes back to three down. Mercker has pitched well recently; Weathers has been better; Guardaro is around for the ninth.
Why go to Coffey, who has been lousy of late? Because he was good in April?
Unlike many of you, I don't mind his lineups or his use of his position players. But the use of pitchers really is bizarre. Narron leaves starters in too long and makes bullpen choices that are highly questionable. This Coffey move is irritating.

I saw this coming two weeks ago. When the Braves lost about 11 in a row. They were due to put a streak together. 2 out of 3 against the Cards.
3 out of 4 against us. Bobby Cox will get them back to .500 before the year is out, if Chipper can play the second half.
Maybe Hume IS the problem
Completely agree....but it is because he's been miscast as the short term pitching coach, and given a stopgap bullpen coach to get them by.
He would make a great permanent pitching coach, if given an adequate #2 to run the pen for him.
He's a bullpen coach being asked to hold down the fort, and it's a difficult situation with Ruhle's circumstances.
It's a very difficult, delicate scenario, one in which I have no recommendation.
But it is obvious they are undermanned from a pitching coach standpoint, and that is not Hume's fault. To imagine this pitching staff has done as well as it has might be considered remarkable, and real kudos for Hume.

Yep. Vegas may argue otherwise, but I'll take a series against a team that's won 10-12 in a row any day over one like the Braves and their recent slide.
And Chipper is a key. He looks better at the plate than I've seen him look in five years. That formerly weak Braves lineup is now looking rather formidable.
On another note, glad to hear the Braves have gone w/ a band version of the chop rather than that horrible organ. Sounding more like my noles every game.
