Kearns to play CF for the Nationals

Not sure if this was posted, but I find it pretty interesting:


Kearns, who was drafted by Bowden in the first round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, is having his best season, hitting .274 with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs in 87 games for Cincinnati. For the short term, Kearns is expected to play center field for the Nationals, but will eventually move to right.

It would make more sense if Soriano played Centerfield, as he is the quickest of the two. He is prone to make errors, but he steals 40 bases a season, so it would make the most sense for the time being. Moving Guillen over to LF and Kearns in RF, would be the likeliest scenario, IMO.

I just read on another board that the Reds picked up an OF off waivers from the Nationals. Byrd is the only guy I could think of it being.

Also read that Yan was DFA and Belisle was put on the 15-day DL.

Soriano is still an awful defender, speed only helps so much

Nope, not Byrd. Outfielder Brandon Watson was claimed off waivers from the Nationals and optioned to Louisville. Bergolla also sent back to Louisville.

Nationals picked up former Reds pitcher Chris Booker:


The Nationals originally signed Booker as a minor league free agent in November; he was chosen by Philadelphia three weeks later in the Rule 5 draft. The Phillies waived him in May, and he was claimed by Kansas City. He pitched in one game for the Royals, who had to offer him back to the Nationals before they could remove him from their 40-man roster.

Booker went 8-4 with 20 saves and a 2.49 ERA in 59 games at Triple-A Louisville in 2005.


They mentioned his minor league stats in that article, but didnt show his major league stats.

I guess a 39.00 ERA, 3 IP, 11 Hits, (3 homeruns), 7 BB, 2 Ks in the majors isnt as impressive.

I am more than a little surprised that no one has cracked wise yet about how Kearns should have been playing in CF before he was traded. And for good measure, asked the rhetorical question of whether playing in CF would have prevented him from being trade in the first place. :evil:
