Reds partner with Matthew 25: Ministries and Kroger to Help the Poor

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds today announced partnerships with Matthew 25: Ministries, an international disaster and humanitarian relief organization headquartered in Blue Ash, and Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. to hit a home run for the poor in the Queen City and around the world.

As part of this special promotion, in which all proceeds will benefit Matthew 25: Ministries, Kroger is offering a limited edition Big Red Machine bobblehead doll collection. The 3-part series of 2 bobbleheads include Johnny Bench/Sparky Anderson, Tony Perez/Joe Morgan and Pete Rose/Ken Griffey Sr..

The Bench/Anderson set goes on sale Monday at 8:00 a.m. at all area Kroger stores. The Perez/Morgan set will go on sale on July 24, and the Rose/Griffey Sr. set becomes available on July 31.

“The Reds are very excited to be a part of this program. Our partnerships with Matthew 25: Ministries and Kroger will enable fans to obtain a great part of Reds history,” said Tony Kountz, Reds manager of corporate sales and marketing. “Fans can feel good about not only having a unique collectable, but in knowing the funds raised through this program will enable Matthew 25 to help people all over the world with their humanitarian relief efforts.”

The bobblehead set celebrates the 30th anniversary of the 1976 World Series championship team, commonly known as The Big Red Machine. It is considered one of the greatest teams in Major League history.

All proceeds will benefit Matthew 25: Ministries’ work in Greater Cincinnati, Appalachia, the Gulf region with Hurricane Katrina victims, the American Indians and more than 35 countries around the world. In 2005, Matthew 25: Ministries distributed almost 9 million pounds of humanitarian aid with the help of nearly 6,000 volunteers.

Matthew 25: Ministries welcomes volunteers 6 days a week at the Blue Ash facility, in addition to cash and in-kind donations from individuals and businesses. More than 99 percent of Matthew 25: Ministries’ donations is distributed to the poor. For every $1 donated, Matthew 25: Ministries delivers $68 of humanitarian aid.
