Jesus....it is amazing to me how Narron selects his lineups. A guy who was just recalled and is a bench player is now the leadoff guy. EE doesn't play forever and is hitting 5th. If these guys can hit 1st and 5th, you would assume that they should be playing everyday.

i like this lineup ee in there batting cleanup castro's in there he's been hot javy gives larue and nite off and goes back to his regular duty of catching the lizard

And they wonder why Lizard doesn't get any run support.

Tom Servo

Interesting lineup, but I like it. We'll see what DeWayne can do. Javy hasn't had a start in a while and is owed one for his good pinch hitting, and I like Juan more than Royce Clayton at this point. And Edwin's playing!

Wise batting leadoff doesn't cut it. Sorry. Not that I'm against awarding him a start for last night's hustle (plus there's something about Sundays that make managers empty the bench), but the guy walks about as often as it snows in Bogota.

Do you guys think BP would be a good leadoff hitter? I think he would especially with Dunn and Griffey hitting behind him.

This is the first time Wise has lead off, he's just giving Denorfia a blow today...don't know what the big deal is there.

People have been screaming for Encarnacion to be put in the four spot for a month now, so here you go...don't see what the big deal is there.

Agreed. Freel has yet to even start in the series and Wise has no business getting starts over Ryan. Wise should only be used as a late-inning pinch runner...but with Narron, you never know what you're gonna get.

Edwin!!!!!

I might have batted BP 1st, but EE is playing, Clayton is not, and RA is not batting 4th, so I am not complaining.

It does seem odd but OTOH that is the same way Bobby Cox always does it. For instance if Betemit was filling in for Chipper Jones Cox would keep everyone in the same slot. While on the surface it may seem dumb I think there is something to be said for guys being in the same lineup slot everyday.

I don't believe Freel has been cleared to play defense yet because of his sore shoulder. That's why he's been limited to pinch hitting/running duties the past three days.

Ozzie Guillen did the same thing last year.

I hope the whole Freel thing isnt going to land him on the DL like we do with most players. Why do we leave our injured players (Claussen, Ross, Belisile to name a few) on the roster for awhile, not play them, then put them on the DL a week or two later?

Why do I get the feeling that Narron uses a Magic 8 ball to select his line-ups. . .

For some reason, I just had an image of Jerry Narron as Forrest Gump, filling out a lineup card as he picks through a box of chocolates.

mbgrayson

I can't beleive how little we are working the pitch count. Castro swung at first pitch, as did Hatteberg and Valentin. In the third, Dunn swung at first pitch, of course Dunn and Hatteberg got hits.

Now, after 3 innings, EZ has thrown 46 pitches and Fogg only 34! We need to run up the pitch counts more. Last night, Aaron Cook only threw 93 pitches in 7 full innings. Arroyo needed 106 for his seven. We were lucky they pulled Cook for a pinch hitter last night... he was pitching well.

On a hot day like today, we want the opposition standing out on the field as long as possible, and we want to get into the Rockies weak bullpen middle relievers.

Petitt33
07-16-2006, 02:26 PM
Phillips hits a sac fly.

2-1 Rockies

mbgrayson
07-16-2006, 02:45 PM
After 5 innings, pitch counts:
EZ=82
Fogg=69

Fogg has two more innings at this rate, EZ probably just one.

5-3 double play ... Reds down 3-1 though. Jeez, where's the run support.

mbgrayson
07-16-2006, 02:58 PM
My guess is that EZ is done. 100 pitches, 6 innings, 3 runs. Typical EZ appearance, and a 'quality start'.

He does not get much run support......

GOREDSGO32
07-16-2006, 03:04 PM

That's a stunner, EE with a throwing error.

Sounds like EZ pitched his usual game.....giving the team a chance to win with another quality start.

No, actually the error was charged to Philips for not catching the ball.

As of now, after 7, after almost 3 games in Pittsburgh:
Kearns= 1 for 9, 3 BBs, and 3 Ks
Lopez= 1 for 12, 3 BBs, and 5 Ks

Not much loss so far....

Just saying ......

It seems the sky is falling assessment due to the horrible trade that was made, seems to be wrong, thus far.

Small sample size, yes. But I don't think the sample size would matter to the critics if the team was 0-4 since the trade. Seems we'd be hearing about it.

I would like to know how many runs we have given up in the ninth and still won the game, or won the game in extra innings after a blown save. Those are the "true" numbers.

I looked back at box scores, and the stat is correct:

4/16/06 vs. St. Louis: 7-6 Reds after 8, Final: 8-7 Cards

5/20/06 vs. Detroit: 6-5 Reds after 8, Final: 7-6 Tigers
