Clayton hitting 2 huh? Hope he doesn't try to steal a base tonight. We've been jaded in that respect the past few games, but maybe it's just good defensive catchers for NY in Castro and Lo Duca? (are they good defensive catchers? Or is the 1B coach missing something?)

cincy09
07-21-2006, 05:38 PM
so much for Dunn hitting in front of Griffey

cincy09
07-21-2006, 05:40 PM
Castro had near perfect mechanics behind home plate for the mets. Would also have to say that Billy Hatcher knows a thing or two about running the bases. We were hosed on the Deno steal yesterday as well.

Tonight: Periods of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low near 65. Northeast wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible.

Also, Cincinnati has a Flash Flood Watch in effect. Don't look for this game to be completed.

We've won 5 of the last 7 games. Let's win 5 of the next 7 games, and we'll distance ourselves a little further away from the pack in the Wild Card Race.

No more 9-8 victories. 6-5, 5-4, 4-3, and 3-2 wins are it now. Should be exciting knowing now that we're in virtually every game (Milton "will" get it together).

Just looked at www.weatherchannel.com ....

Have a good night, all. It's 104 degrees here in Portland, OR as I type this (The all-time record is 107). Doubt if the REDS game will be finished tonight.

I need to find a river to jump in or something. Supposed to be 104 again tomorrow. Yucch!!

What does the first base coach have to do with stealing a base?

Problem is most houses in Portland don't have AC.

But the humidity is only 21%, so that's a plus.

What does the first base coach have to do with stealing a base?
He has a good vantage point, he gets to watch the pitchers move and approach all night, plus he's timing the delivery each inning.

07-21-2006, 07:44 PM
so are you saying the first base coach tells you when to go? Stolen bases are called by the dugout, relayed by signs from the third base coach. He may try and assist with helping you get back on a pickoff, but if you have to wait for him to tell you, guess what? You are already meat. He may take timings, and make suggestions on who has the slowest move to the plate, but thats about it. The first base coach, to steal from you west, is the Left Fielder of the coaches.

MLB-TV makes no sense to me. I am 110 miles from Cincy, in central KY. Why am I blacked out? I can see maybe Sat. and Sun games, but weekday games? They are missing out on a lot of money. Same thing with the NFL.

Got to around 101 here in Memphis today. Heat index was around 110 I was told. I guess in a few years we'll all have to wear thermal suits just to go outside. :)

Is LaRue even worth a bucket of balls?

I would be the first one to say LaRue isn't worth a roster spot, but he has hit better the last week or so. He seems to make some really stupid moves in almost every game, however, his throwing lately has been almost Bench-esque.

I would HOPE that some team will pay a low level minor leaguer for LaRue before the deadline and that Ross will be OK and off the DL by then.

THEN, I hope Narron will remember that Valentin is a LH hitting catcher....once considered a HUGE luxury in the Major Leagues....somebody please tell Narron.

I've got it on mlb.tv so I'll pitch in.

Capuano is dealing groundballs Brandon Webb style. 5-1 Brewers after 5.

Cap is working awfully fast as well...it looks like they are going to be able to get more than the regulatory 5 innings in on this game. The Reds better be careful now as this game is official I believe.
