When Belisle comes back, who goes from the BP? I feel that Mays HAS to be the odd man out.

On an aside, isn't it great to see that no one in the BP has an ERA above 4.71 (Guardado)?

Arbitration is 5 years right? that's a pretty poor excuse for not trying to save this season. When does the "future" become the present? Our offense is good enough to make the play-offs if we can get consistant pitching.
Our offense NEVER gives up, but they have to be in striking distance.

But if a journeyman minor leaguer in tearing it up soemwhere in AAA or AA, the arbitration thing plays no factor at all.

I think it's more of dealing with the 40-man roster.

Alvarado, Shafer, or one of these guys gets called up and someone has to go.

explain? that is one of the main factors with the reds. some clubs don't care about the arbitration if the players are ready.(braves, yankees)

other than Homer, nobody in Chatt or Louisville is ever going to break the bank in arbitration. And coming up in late July doesn't usually push a guy closer to arbitration date, because it takes three full seasons (or, in special cases, two seasons plus most of a third) to qualify

starting clock toward options might be more of a concern, since there are a lot of borderline talents who will often travel on the Cincy/Louisville express in future years.

my guess is that the Reds just know that they don't have a lot of talent in the minor leagues, and will take little talent/high experience over little talent/no experience. Weathers has been good before, and not so long ago. They hope that his success returns.

You're absolutely right. Hatteberg knows how to spell "walk" and take on. Phillips couldn't spell walk if you gave him w-a-l, and couldn't take one if you started him 3-0.

If he ever develops plate patience/discipline, he might be a more complete hitter. Until then, he's nothing more than a AVG driven OBP guy with above average power for a 2B.

Was the Castro steal a bothced hit and run? Because that's the only possible explanation I can find as to why someone who's not that fast to begin with is trying to steal in the 8th inning with no outs with Freel, Dunn, and Griffey coming up.

Ah well, looks like Freel makes it moot (although 2 runs would have been better than one).
