Hopefully Griffey's game winner last night was the slump turnaround.

This is the best line-up Narron has trotted out there in awhile. Aurilia isn't even starting... imagine that! Offensively, I could see him replacing Clayton, but I'm not sure what kind of SS defense he still plays. Anyway, I hope this is a sign of things to come.

I like the lineup tonight. I think it is interesting that the brewers lineup is identical to last nights with the exception of the pitcher.

according to mccoy, jerry makes his lineup based on match ups and stats. I am not always so sure what stats he is looking at but, that is what the claim is that McCoy made in his interview with Furball the other night.

I wonder if it isn't better to let a guy settle into a place in the order. I think that it might help if you know where you will bat game to game, week to week. for instance if you are in the one or two hole you should be trying to take pitches and get on base, if you are in the 4th through the 6th hole you should plan on driving the ball, hitting the other way.

I just can't decide if I think it would be more beneficial to have a set role or to play Jerry Carousel with the lineups every night. I am starting to wonder after watching Boone, Miley and now Narron whether we will ever have a manager who knows who his best 8 are and plays them regularly in a lineup that has some consistency.

07-22-2006, 06:52 PM

Mays with a chance to make a downpayment on the runs he'll give up next inning...

kevinc12345
07-22-2006, 07:11 PM
Mays goes down on 3 pitches, Reds up 6-3 going into the 4th!

Bush has now thrown 68 pitches, great news for the Reds and awful news for an already tired Brewers bullpen.

The Brewers had to use a starting pitcher out of the bullpen in a game last week; their making the Reds pen problems look miniscule.

kevinc12345
07-22-2006, 07:14 PM
Fielder grounds out to Clayton, 1 out.

6 IN A ROW FOR MAYS?

There's only so long before Mays remembers who, in fact, he really is.

kevinc12345
07-22-2006, 07:16 PM
Gross walks on 4 pitches.

Mays may be the most inconsistant pitcher I've seen in a Reds uniform.

Hall with a single to Dunn, 1st and 2nd with one out.

Miller up again to hit another 3-run HR to tie it up AGAIN?

kevinc12345

And I don't know if you're overexaggerating, I've never seen a pitcher be so out of control. He might walk one guy on 4 pitches then groove the next pitch right down the middle to give up a HR.

Get Germano in a car ASAP to get up here to take Mays spot in the rotation

I predict that Mays will be sent down after the game and Dumatrait called up for long relief for tomorrow. They won't need the fifth starter again until next Saturday and then it might be Germano or Dumatrait. Germano pitched last night and Michalak is pitching tonight so it won't be them. Dumatrait is scheduled to start tomorrow for the Bats so he would be the likely callup. Anyway they need another bullpen arm for long relief tomorrow with Milton pitching and the pen wasted the past two nights.

That's why I still don't get why we got rid of Yan over Weathers. Granted I would like to rid myself of both, but Yan is definitly the lesser of two evils imo. The only thing I can think of is that WK thought that Hackelberry would be better with a new role in a new pen.

Coffey finishes what Bray started. Marty is livid at an e-mailer. The man suggested that Marty was wrong in his support of still playing the games after delays again. The guy went on to call Marty a "poorly paid broadcaster". Marty was irate and said he was not poorly paid and could not say what he wanted to say. An old-timer supported the idea and telling Marty to quit feeling sorry for himself and Marty was hot at him saying he has done many doubleheaders in his Hall of Fame career and he did not care to do another. He then explained it much more coherently.

2 questionable calls here. Sending Castro (one run lost there), then pinch-hitting RA for Hatteberg.

Decisions like that are always questionable. The ones that work everybody praises, the ones that don't are considered stupid.

What are the odds of the Cards losing tonight?

Freel starts and ends the scoring with a home run, beautiful.

Sweet win, however, I just really have a hard time understanding why Narron would pinch hit for Hatte. Someone please explain.

Id like to see them put Standridge or Belisle in that 5th rotation spot!

You're right, no denying that. I still don't understand any rationale for sending Castro, unless it was a hit-and-run...

The bullpen had a nice day today as well.........5 innings and gave up 2 runs (both by Weathers). If we could get 1 more decent starter to go with Arroyo and Harang this team can not only win the wild card, but the division.

Probable because Hatte is a Lefty and was facing a lefty?

Merker put on the 15 day DL, Shack called back up. I trust that Narron will ONLY use him as a situational lefty.

If not that then because Rich has a better glove which proved wise on that Dp play that he had..

Well, Freel did swing and miss, so yeah, it probably was.

Probable because of his glove. With a one run lead you want your best D on the field and thats what we had!

Hatteberg is 0 for 17 lifetime against Shouse. That is why he pinch-hit Aurilia for him.

Sounded like Freel missed on a hit-and-run, just wasn't executed.

I hear you...but jeez Hatte been swinging a hot bat and Aurilla coming in cold. Oh well turned out just fine. Nice to have some good depth coming off the bench.

I absolutely hate that thinking, but you're probably right. I think it waaaay overrated.

Is he? I guess I really never noticed. If that was the reason, I'd rather he let SH bat (he was having a good night) and make the defensive replacement at the end of the inning.

What is wrong with Merker?

BTW, a RZ welcome to you both!

It would be nice if we could use these wins to put some distance on the Giants and company in the Wild Card race. Good win tonight though, our starting pitching has been bad these first two games against the Brew crew, but I'll take what I can get. :D
