I cant believe Jerry hasnt tried it yet.

I'd like to see Hatteberg in there instead of Rich. I know Rich has been hitting well lately, but Hatterberg has been on fire. Glad to finally see Edwin start a game though.

My ideal lineup would be:
Freel

Dunn
Griffey
Encarnacion
Hatterberg
Ross
Clayton

But, whatever. I trust Jerry. People complain about his wacky lineups, but we are leading the WC aren't we??

I think Hat is more familiar with Andy being that Hat spent so much time in the AL. Plus Andy doesn't throw hard stuff allowing lefties to pick it up better.

It has more to do with George's pre-baseball career during which his real-life exploits inspired a series of novels by Ian Fleming.

keeganbrick
07-26-2006, 09:36 PM
Ausmus doubles off LF wall. Arroyo then hits Everett with pitch. Then Taveras pinch hits for Pettitte and hit a ground ball up middle that Clayton picks up and trys to flip to Phillips for the DP instead of taking the sure out at 1st. The ball hits off Phillips glove and everyone is safe bases loaded. Biggio then singles to center to score 1 run.
Bases still currently loaded, 0 outs.

We found Dunn's bat again. Once Jr. finds his we are going to go on a tear. Honestly, we've been playing well since the break without production from our biggest hitters.
Well Dunn has been on a tear since the break. Jr is about the only one still left behind. Catch up Jr, please.

Unfortunately, this game only emphasizes the need for another starter. Our current chances basically depend on both Harang and Arroyo being perfect every time out in order to offset the...suck of the rest of the rotation.
Spilt milk and all, but I wish we hadn't used up both of our biggest trading chips in the last deal.

Again.....Narron...leaving BA in? I used to enjoy watching JN....but I have had about enough of his "emotional" decisions....
LB launches another homer.
I can't stand Jerry Narron's management of starting pitchers. Why
would he leave Arroyo in to face Berkman. I don't know the pitch
count but its getting up there. Clearly Berkman was not fooled by
Arroyo tonight. And Berkman has SO much more power from the left side
- 22 homers vs. RHP, 4 vs. LHP. And he has Shackelford in the bullpen
and then brought him in immediately after Berkman hit the home run.
How do you not bring in Shack, turn Berkman around and then leave
Shack in to face the left handed hitter that is on deck?

Exactly. This game wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Any team that is allowed to score 8 runs, should win. Plain and simple.
The thing I don't like, is how the Reds try and work the pitcher. I seen TOO MANY cases this game and other games of hitters taking 2 strikes before even swinging the bat! There were like 10 times this game, where a Stros pitcher had our hitter down 0-2 before he decided to swing the bat. I mean, this wasn't a very aggressive game at all (besides Dunn and Aurilia giving good outings). Griffey was a little TOO aggressive....every at bat, it seems, he swung at the first pitch.
I don't know....some things need to get into check. Can you imagine how great this team would be if they hit like they should, and would remain aggressive at the plate like they showcase in SOME games?

That doesn't matter to the sky is falling crew. There are thse who will always tell you the Reds are wrong no matter what. This extends to the front office, coaches and players. Quite frankly it gets old after a while. Sometimes you just lose and it is really no one's fault. In every game there are a myriad of opportunities to swing the game in your favor, i.e. the Clayton-Phillips fumble.
PHing for an on-fire Aurilia would have been silly. But don't tell that to someone who irrationally hates him and/or Narron. The coaches did not lose this game...it was a team effort.

That inning had a really bad feel to it.
It really did didn't it. I thought Arroyo looked just plain lazy against Ausmus even before he got tagged then careless against Everett when he hit him with that 0-1 pitch.
Originally I thought Everett was the key batter of the inning; but then seeing how the Reds 9th unfolded with the Astros working with a 3 run lead as opposed to the 4 run lead the Reds had to work with in the 5th, I decided that not getting an out on the Tavares grounder was in retrospect the key. On that one I thought with the play at first right in front of him, Clayton should have taken the out there instead of trying to get something more.
As you watch Arroyo work it is evident that in some situations, he absolutely pitches around folks and not getting that out on Tavares, did not leave him any wiggle room to do that. And actually I thiink the 'Stros also gave themselves some unintended help in the same way when they held Everett at 3rd on the Biggio single. If 2 come in on the Biggio single, the Astros are probably going to have Burke bunt the runners to 2nd and 3rd and that would have resulted in all likelihood in Berkman being walked.
Very intersting if upsetting inning. The one thing I think you do have to say though is the way Arroyo blew through the next 8 guys (until Berkman again) after the dameage was done, his problems were mental and not physical. And that is what is much more worrisome to me than just the blown game tonite.

Yeah, he had a bad inning... but Clayton and Phillips didn't help his cause either.
Also, based on past experience (ad nauseum).... why would you pitch to Berkman? They did the same thing with Pujols and he did the same thing as Berkman. Just dumb!
I also wonder, again, why Adam Dunn is not left in the two spot. Instead of him being on deck when the last out was recorded, he would have already batted in the inning... which may have made a difference.
