The lack of playing time for EE is getting to the point of ridiculousness.

Your lineups:

1) Freel - RF
2) Dunn - LF
3) Griffey - CF
4) Aurilia - 3B
5) Hatteberg - 1B
6) Phillips - 2B
7) Castro - SS
8) LaRue - C
9) Harang - P

1) Clark - CF
2) Graffanino - 2B
3) Fielder - 1B
4) Mench - LF
5) Jenkins - RF
6) Bell - 3B
7) Hall - SS
8) Rivera - C
9) Sheets - P

Well, it is the final chance to showcase Rich... ;)

Brian
07-30-2006, 01:35 PM
Wishful thinking. I'd much rather give up a little range and have Rich at SS and EE at 3B. How much of a defensive downgrade could Rich be at SS compared to Clayotn? And, if you have the lead, drop Castro in there the last few frames if you want.

jimbo
07-30-2006, 01:36 PM
I don't buy into this damaging EE's "confidence" if he doesn't play theory. Baseball is just as much mental as it is physical, and if EE's mental game is so fragile that he's losing confidence then he'll probably never be a good major league player. If he's strong mentally, he sucks it up, works hard, stays positive, and gets the job done when he does get chances. If he does just that, his time will eventually come.

10-5 since the break, damn shame that all folks worry about is EE getting at bats.

Enough that somehow it hasn't crossed the guys in the dugouts minds.

I'm just hoping that the silver lining in Royce's less than stellar defensive play is that it ensures that he won't be back next year.

Hopefully, there wasn't much chance of that to begin with, but you never know...

Henry Clay

I more heartened by Clayton's absence than disturbed by EdE's absence. I agree though that Encarnacion should play with the Reds or with Louisville, but not ride the pine with either.

West, I think you're naive if you think they haven't considered it. While Narron doesn't get much credit for being bright, I think he can ponder the idea of Rich at SS.

I think the Brewers have done a better job with their trades so far than any other team in baseball. With Sheets and Ohka coming back this team will be in 2nd place by seasons end.

It seems like whenever someone makes a prediction like this, the Reds do the opposite.

I don't expect the Reds to score a lot of runs today, but I think it will be more because of Ben Sheets and less the lineup.

Will Homer be able to be a Ben Sheets type pitcher for the Reds?

2001MUgrad
07-30-2006, 02:29 PM
Edwin needs to play. He needs to bat either 3rd or 4th. You have got to have another bat in there. Right now Griff is horrible. He needs to be dropped to about 6th or 7th. I like RA and Hatteberg. But, RA needs to be a fill in player, not the teams everyday 3rd baseman and cleanup hitter.

redlegs2370
07-30-2006, 02:33 PM
That at bat is why Castro shouldn't play no matter how good his defense is. You have to put the ball in play.

Will Homer be able to be a Ben Sheets type pitcher for the Reds?

The guys on FSN Ohio addressed Sheets' development as a pitcher since he came into the league. They noted how he was pretty much a flamethrower initially, but now he can be just as dialed in with the offspeed stuff and control. Today's a great example, as Sheets isn't throwing in the mid-90s, but he's mixing speeds and throwing strikes.

If Homer can keep developing his secondary pitches, I like his chances to do some impressive things. Just make sure it's not Sheets-like in terms of DL stints.

People keep questioning Sheets and his durability issues.

Especially in the other game thread.

It's ridiculous and uninformed.

Innings pitched:

2001: 151.3 (Entered the league)
2002: 216.7
2003: 220.7
2004: 237.0
2005: 156.7

2006 is the only season that's really been marred.

To say that you would take Harang over Sheets (as some have said in the other game thread) because Sheets isn't durable is homerism at its best.

The more I watch Clark, the more I think he is a bush league player. It's amazing how many times he gets away with moving that padded elbow into the path of a pitch. I lost all respect of him when he drilled Ross at home plate with his back turned to him. I'd love to see a Reds pitcher put a fastball in his back. Too bad Arroyo missed the one time he tried, I think he's the only Reds pitcher who actually protects his teammates.

I agree.... Larue now down to .195! Two strikeouts, and his intentional walk was to get to the only slightly lower average of Aaron Harang....

As I said the other day ( http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49300 ) we HAVE to get rid of one of these catchers. No consistency. Also can't be good for morale. I can't help but wonder how Ross's numbers would hold up if he was playing more....
