08-01-2006, 07:21 PM
Betemit takes the 1-2 changeup down the pipe, Arroyo gets his 3rd strikeout to get out of the bases loaded jam unscathed.

Amazing pitching by Bronson on those last few batters, he had them COMPLETELY baffled.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:22 PM
Only 22 pitches for Arroyo even though he faced 6 batters, so that scare really doesn't hurt at all.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:25 PM
Dunn had never hit above .300 in any month before July... he hit .354 in July!

He starts August in old school fashion, swinging at strike 3.

0-1 to Griffey.

Griffey grounds to 2nd...

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:27 PM
Griffey shows patience, working an 0-2 count to a full count, but hits a hard grounder right at the second baseman.

0-0 after 1.

fisch11
08-01-2006, 07:28 PM
Reds go quietly....
Martin, Loney, Sele due up.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:33 PM
Loney singles right past Clayton into left field.

Should have been stopped by someone... it was not hit hard at all.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:34 PM
Sele looks so confused when looking for the sign from the third base coach, hehe.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:34 PM
Sele strikes out trying to bunt, great movement from Arroyo.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:36 PM
Furcal goes down swinging on a high fastball, 5 K's and 41 pitches for Arroyo through 1.5

fisch11
08-01-2006, 07:36 PM
5 K's for Bronson through 2. Let's hope that pace holds.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:37 PM
Arroyo had a rough first inning, but he really looks to have his stuff working so far. There hasn't been a hard hit ball yet from the Dodgers (knock on wood).

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:38 PM
5 K's for Bronson through 2. Let's hope that pace holds.

Hopefully the scoreless streak continues, but 22 or 23 K's per 9 innings might be too high of an expectation ;)

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 07:39 PM
Aurilia leads off with a single up the middle. I hate to see EE on the bench but Aurilia has earned his spot in the lineup.

2 outs for Phillips. Dang.

08-01-2006, 07:48 PM
why doesn't he play everyday again

I think you will see that again. It seemed to me that they were easing him back into the lineup after his DL stint. Hopefully he gets the ABs in the second half like he was before the break.

kevinc12345

Betemit homers to right, 3-1 Dodgers. 2 guys Arroyo retired the easiest in the first, go figure.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 08:00 PM
Arroyo already at 65 pitches.

fisch11
08-01-2006, 08:01 PM
Ross muffs another play at the plate....Drew was probably safe either way though. LA with their own 2 out lightning as Betemit goes deep for 2.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 08:02 PM
Martin singles, still 2 outs.

kevinc12345

Do you mean Loney, the 8 hitter?

Great question.

fisch11
08-01-2006, 08:07 PM
With every start from Bronson you just keep thinking, "Ok, TONIGHT he gets that stupid 10th win." It's been frustrating to watch his last few starts. After the 1st inning escape job tonight I was thinking he got the break he needed, which he was crusing until Drew hit a PW off the right field wall.

kevinc12345

Freel down swinging, 2 outs.

I might be turning this one off if things don't look up soon, it's dead at Great American Ballpark and the players seem like their on cruise control.

Dunn hits a hard shot down the first base line, but the shift has him and the first baseman makes a casual play on it.

kevinc12345
08-01-2006, 08:10 PM
4-1 Dodgers after 3.

GOREDSGO32
08-01-2006, 08:10 PM

Arroyo seems to be completely burned out. Do you remember only a few short months ago when he was the best in the majors in ERA as the game progressed? His ERA was under one when he was going through the lineup for the third time, now these guys are jumping all over him when they have seen him once.

Furcal lines out to Griffey, one out.

CincyReds2003
08-01-2006, 08:14 PM
I hope they evaluate Steve Stewart's contract because you don't know what is going on. He says a fly ball to the outfield, you think it's routine, and then he says it's a basehit.

Before we hang Clayton, remember who's really at fault here:

Ryan. Freel. Had he caught the ball, the bases aren't loaded, the runners that ARE on are on first and second, and a ground ball to Clayton ends the inning with an easy step-on-the bag.

Clayton and Cormier should never have been put in the situations they were placed in. They are still at fault, but don't bury the new guys and absolve Freel because he's a fortunate son here in Cincy.

OK guys, I take blame for this potential loss. I was at class and during the break I logged on to follow the game when we were up 1-0. During the 3 minutes I was online the Dodgers scored their first 3 runs. I just got home from class and the score was 4-4 when I turned on the TV to see Clayton pull Hatte off the bag and then the Dodgers proceeded to score 5 more runs. I've watched this game for about a total of 8 minutes now and have seen the Dodgers score 8 of their 9 runs and the Reds blow a lead and a tie. I will take one for the team and turn the TV off and bore myself for the rest of the night. The Reds should proceed to comeback now. Goodnight.

Okay, just making sure. To Clayton's credit, that was a bouncer that made it a little more difficult than "routine". However, he should have made a better throw, no doubt about it. But he got the ball there, which is more than you can say for Freel in right. He didn't make an ugly catch that was called a dropped ball...he failed to catch it completely.

If we lose this game it's one thing. But to give people games is another...I would rather see them rock our bullpen for legitimate runs than the way this went down. I've never been for instant replay in baseball but after that play at first the ump missed, it makes me think twice. You don't want to see a blown call change the game by allowing 5 runs after it. Even though the play probably shouldn't have come to that.

I agree fisch, there is too much at stake and with technology the way it is today it wouldn't cost a whole lot to add an umpire in the booth to take a quick look at certain plays. I.E. 1st base and home plate calls, trapped balls, and foul ball/fair ball calls. I don't think it would delay the game very much.

The Bullpen should have three flawless innings. In the seventh, it required FIVE outs to get Three.

Freel made an error, and Clayton made an errant throw that resulted in a missed call that would have ended the inning.

There's nothing wrong with the pen.
