It's fans like you that make me wonder why people are fans. Anytime you feel like saying something supportive or productive, feel free. There are enough people here that only comment when things are bad. Amazingly, if things start going well, I'm sure you'll be here blowing smoke. I was under the impression that both negative and positive comments were allowed in a game thread. But believe me, I've been positive about the Reds as much as possible over the past few years. That's why I'm here, of course.

I've just been so consistently irked by the recent, asinine front office moves and the counter-intuitive managing that I've been recently turned into my evil twin brother who says negative, sarcastic things.

My apologies if I ruffled any feathers. I am glad that Weathers weathered the storm... and I am ECSTATIC that Brandon Phillips just hit a HR. GO REDS!

ThatPitchIsDunn
08-05-2006, 04:12 PM
They were commenting on this in the ORG thread, but I think Phillips pulled a deke on BOTH homer at-bats on the prior pitches. The first one he swung poorly at a slider low and away then looked disgusted with himself and clobbered the 3-run shot. The second AB there was a pitch low and away and Phillips walked through the box as if he missed the pitch he wanted. The next pitch was a fastball down the pike and he put it in left center.

If this is seriously a BP move, I LOVE it. He's what, reached base 5 times today!

And as I type, Griff-dog drives in another! Get Everyday ready!!

Nothing major, Hatte threw a shoulder at the catcher and he dropped the ball. Hatte missed the bag and had to step back towards the plate and touch it. He would of been out had the C held on to the ball.

Good job by the C to block the plate. Scott had nowhere to go but through him.

Yeah... it's a good thing we got Bray, cuz then we'd REALLY have nothing to show for the trade.

No...that was not my point. His entrance to the mound has nothing to do with his performance. I just don't think Todd Coffey has earned the right to differentiate himself from the other 99.9 percent of relievers that are in baseball. Like I said, if he crawls in or sprints, as long as he gets them out, I'm happy. But, when he doesn't, it kinda makes that entrance look ridiculous.

MaineRed
08-05-2006, 04:31 PM
Frank Robinson, so they say

I have an idea....the only time Phillips doesn't lead off is when Freel is in the lineup. When Freel is in, Phillips hits 2nd. He is REALLY good.

With Freel...

Freel
Phillips
Junior
Dunn
EE (my choice, but we probably know Narron's)
Hatteberg
Ross
Castro/Clayton (my preference....Castro)

I think that lineup is more potent...just my opinion...

I do not care to much for Clayton but to me his homerun may have turned the season around after being in such a tailspin

Your right, no doubt. Shutout the night before on top of being no hit for six innings, then being no hit again and being shut out. Then bam, the Reds tie the game and go onto score 5 runs. Today 8 more.

The season has many ups and downs, nice to see the team perhaps getting it going again. Royce's HR will be one I will remember if they go and make the play-offs.

One I will remember should they fail to make the postseason is the end of the 8 game winning streak in June, I believe. The Reds were down a run with the bases loaded and nobody out in the 9th, and they couldn't get the tying run in. That loss led to a swoon in which the 8 game win streak was handed right back.

Anyways, if Clayton is going to play, lets pray he can help. Perhaps he has some pop in his bat that he can put to good use in Great American. Confidence is a powerful thing. Maybe Royce and the Reds home park will be good for each other. Who knows?
