High pitch count early for our starter for the second game in a row.

Groundout to end the inning.

Was this really about Arroyo wanting to start in the other series or us being scared of our #5.

dougdirt
08-05-2006, 01:40 PM
it was stupid, thats all. The guy has enough innings on his arm already, he needs all the rest he can get if the Reds really want to make a run at the playoffs. Narron should have stepped in and just said thanks Bronson, but we need your arm the rest of the year, get your rest adn you can pitch Sunday.

Arroyo wasn't even looking at the ball that was popped up. I give the error to him. He had the best play out of anyone and was starting at Aurilia struggle.

Pitchers are taught from day one to never go after a pop flyball in the infield.

BoCcc2832

Still, it's easier for the pitcher to snag that ball. I know the rules, but I've seen pitchers make some pretty good catches.

Still, it's easier for the pitcher to snag that ball. I know the rules, but I've seen pitchers make some pretty good catches.

It has nothing to do with the rules, it's just what pitchers are taught. You'll never see a mlb pitcher catch an infield flyball. The only times you'll see them make a catch on the fly is if it's hit low or close to them. The pitcher is taught to be the "traffic cop" on an infield fly, mainly to prevent collisions and to prevent an injury to the pitcher from tripping or falling around the mound.

Gizmo
08-05-2006, 02:39 PM
Is it me, or are teams getting more patient with Bronson lately? In the early part of the season they were getting outs on his pitches early in the count, and now it seems he's going full every other batter. He use to hit 100 pitches in the 7th or 8th, now it's like the 5th or 6th.

EDIT: A roughly quick inning after I post this :)

BoCcc2832, jimbo is right. If you watch any game 99.9 % the pitch will not make the play. I remember in the late 90's making two catches in 1 game while he was standing on the pitchers mound.

Couldn't agree more. Post after post about how Arroyo's lost it and needs to be pulled, so they pull him, Coff gives up a homer and everyone's upset. You asked for him to get pulled, you have to pick one guys, you can't be upset he's in, then upset when the bullpen blows up. Well, I guess you can....but I've never seen so many negative posts for a team that is in contention. And I thought the Cincinnati-reds.com board was full of whiners

Have we just completely abandoned stealing bases? Why not give it a shot. Have him attempt a steal there, if he gets thrown out, so what. Then you'll have Castro leading off the next inning then the pitchers spot coming up. If he makes it you have a runner in scoring position late in the game, and who knows with Deno's speed Mcann could rush his throw, throw it out in centerfield and something might happen to get the fans off their seat. I hate sitting and waiting for homers!$@$@#^%$%&^*%
