Edwin in=good lineup
Edwin out=what the **** is Narron doing

Uh oh...anytime this board agrees with Narron's lineups it seems like the Reds get shutout. But then I look at who's hitting in the number 9 hole for the other team and that seems highly improbable.

Other good things about this lineup:

Dunn batting 2.
Aurilia not batting cleanup.
Freel leads off.
Everyone but Lizard batting ahead of Clayton (Clayton not batting 1 or 2).

Lets go Reds... need to set the tone for the series tonight. WIth each win of which ever team in this series, more and more pressure gets placed on the other team. I am still upset that the game from yesterday slipped away, talk about a momentum builder, but, it can all be picked back up tonight. The over/under on this game is 10.5 runs. I see that total being picked up in the first 5 innings.

One other note, Albert scares the crap out of me, but not as much with Belliard and Duncan hitting ahead of him. (Now Belliard and Duncan combine for 7 hits and about 25 total bases)

Agreed. Also would like to see DRoss (OPS over 1.0 is best on team) behind the plate, but I guess we need JV because of language barrier with Lizard or righty/lefty advantage?? And I hate all the negativity towards Aurilia. I know EdE's getting hot, but doesn't defense count for something anymore??

Well, now we know why we got Franklin. Who in the world would the Reds be bringing in right now if Franklin were not available?

I'm not saying WK knew we needed him tonight but good thing we got him. We'd have NO bullpen for the rest of this series if we did not trade for Franklin. Do we have anyone who could go more than 2 innings? If one person covered two, that would still leave 5 innings. Basically the entire bullpen would of been used tonight.

We might get killed but if Franklin can give us 5, even if he gets beat up, it might be a big key looking back.

I think we'd be in for some serious trouble if we didn't have a long man right now.

Face it .. this was inevitable. We didn't have a very good 5th starter all season, we knew at the start Dave Williams was meat, then Ramirez saved that spot by pitching much better than expected for a while - but then Claussen fell apart and we tried to replace with Mays and spot starters, now Lohse.

Arroyo having a major career year took us as far as we could go, a few games over .500 - but we had to know that was coming back down to earth. Milton has been the worst signing in recent Reds history, the worst investment of money ever - we are just riding that sinking ship until its gone. Ramirez we had to know wasn't doing to stand up. The starting pitching was the only thing holding up our season, and with the bullpen being consistently bad - and the offense known for being inconsistently bad sometimes, we had to have the pitching to stay even decent. Now that has come back to earth, we're done. Even in a poor NL, one of the poorest ever we're not doing well enough right now to make the playoffs.

There's not much you can do when you are handicapped by two overpaid junk players like Milton and Griffey - and you rely on DFA players and other teams player dumps as your goto guys. Sure they may step up for a while, but eventually they come back to earth .. thats what we're dealing with here.

If Dunn and Jr dont K looking maybe they hit into a Double Play, why does it matter how they made an out?

I'd rather see an out when you take the bat off of your shoulders.

this is embarassing. I am not going to throw in the towel, but so far this effort is pathetic. A couple of nice plays in the field by Freel though.

Stepped away and the Cardinals have played add on again. 9-1 to the bottom of the 4th. This one has gotten away in a hurry.

If we can get something going the Cards pitching is not that good and we could score enough runs off of them. Maybe Freel's play will spark us.

Actually Dunn has seen something like over 500 (2000) more pitches than Hatte. And last time I checked BP(14??) was 2nd but Hatte(14??) was right behind him.

The only difference is Hatteberg is much more constructive with working the count to get a pitch he can hit. Dunn just won't swing at pitches outside the strike zone. He doesn't really put himself in better position by doing it, and sometimes he will take too many close ones that will come back to bite him. Working the count and taking pitches are two different things.

And Weaver strikes out the side...yes I said Weaver.

Alot - Alittle. Top 5 we go.

I was making the point that Hatteberg has not seen more pitches than anyone in the big leagues. I am not trying to make this into another Dunn argument.

I wasn't saying you were. Just making a statement related to the subject. You can calm down. I'm not trying to start an argument.

It's officially a good old fashioned butt whoopin' now. 10-1 Cards.

I guess we were due for one of these since we have won 6 of 8 against them this year.

Here's to a dramatic come from the grave victory.

Even if we held the Cardinals to 5 runs after the 1st inning, we still would be losing by 4. The offense, defense, and pitching we all flat tonight. Hopefully this doesn't hang over to tomorrow. Still need to take 3 of 4.

This has certainly been a discouraging game but there are still 3 games left in the series and another 3 next week. I went into the series hoping for 3 out of 4 and thats still in reach. Besides, we let the Cards waste all their offensive output for the series tonight while we saved our up for the other three games. At least I hope thats how it works.

well the cards tonight for a team had and out standing BA. of .395 the reds on the other hand came in at .228. But here is the simple fact. Dunn can not watch the third strike come across the plate with out swinging. He also can not keep swinging at ball that are thrown 59 feet. Griffey same thing. He thinks cause he's a superstar they won't call that outside strike wrong! how many times has it watched it go by this year? We need to hit! Our pitching can suck but if we can't hit we can't win! This team is centered arround offence not anything else. And the offence hasn't shown up in some time.

How we looking?

Not a bad game thread, everyone. I preferred it to the one on ORG.
