Why does Royce have to be in the lineup? Castro is a better fielder and probably a better hitter. Rich is a better hitter for sure.

Edwin is in there so I am not going to complain too much though.

Because if Clayton isn't starting then he's a pretty bad backup, he can only play 1 spot, Castro can play 3.

Looks like Hatteberg has found a home at #2.

Biggest assets: working the pitcher, OBP, has the 3-4 hole open with Freel on first base, can make contact on the hit-and-run.

Biggest liabilities: borderline base clogging footspeed, candidate to ground into DP -- unless Freel is running on the pitch.

As much as Freel runs, Hat's not going to produce any more DP grounders than some of the other Reds' hitters.

One question remains -- who bats 2nd (assuming RA plays 1B) against southpaws? Dunn?

Doc. Scott
08-11-2006, 06:21 PM
I know Aurilia can't play SS any more, but I think Rich's bat outweighs Clayton's better range (hey, there's someone Royce is better than with the glove). The double nutpunch of Clayton and Castro starting day in and day out is killing me here.

Chris Coste is a 33-year-old career journeyman living the Crash Davis dream. He'd never played one inning in the bigs before 2006. The Phils kept him around because he hit well over .300 in his fill-in stint.

This all doesn't stop him from running afoul of the Lohsemeister. 6 Ks.

Rounding up the kids:

AAA:Louisville leads the IL's best team by record, the Charlotte Knights (even though they employ Ruben Rivera), 2-1 in the fourth. Steve Kelly's pitching for the Bats. Superstar's hitting third.

AA:Tyler Pelland gives up a first-inning run to Tennessee.

High-A: 2-0 Fort Myers over Sarasota in the third.

Low-A: Dragons mauling SW Michigan 7-0 in the fourth.
