This would be a much better lineup if Dunn was hitting second or third. I guess his .333/.433/.627-1.060 OPS in the second spot wasn't good enough.

Rich better only play SS when Milton plays, otherwise there are some serious problems defensively at SS.

Let it go. Adam Dunn isn't the only hitter on the team. Hatteberg and his over .400 OBP should be in the 2 hole.

If Dunn can only hit well in the 2 hole, then he isn't as good of a hitter as we all think he is.

However I think Dunn should be batting 3rd.

I can have my own opinion. You're not a mod, so don't tell me to let it go.

As I said above, Dunn should be hitting 2nd or 3rd to get more protection. His numbers when batting ahead of Griffey speak for themselves.

Yeesh do you have to freak out when somebody disagrees with you?

Dunn's recent struggles have nothing to do with him batting 5th. It has to do with him being a very streaky hitter. He'll go on a hot streak again soon.

Props to Narron for this. Put Phillips at SS and we are finally there on the infield, but I am not going to complain about the fact that he has found a way to get Aurilia, EE and Phillips in all at once.

Finally after 117 games into the season the hat Narron uses to draw his lineups from puts his best eight into the game at the same time..........now I am really confused, confused as to what were the barriers to inhibit this from happening earlier. So now the question remains for me, what keeps the manager, the boss, from moving Griffey from the 3 spot until his struggles have passed, and moving Phillips to short and Aurilia to 2nd to keep his best eight in the lineups in between resting players from time to time.

RedsManRick
08-13-2006, 12:49 PM
Finally an intelligent lineup from Narron. Senior FlyBall is pitching so he realizes that Aurilia's defense as SS isn't a big deal. That said, this would've been the perfect game to sit Junior, play Freel in CF, and Deno in RF... err....

TheBigLebowski
08-13-2006, 12:57 PM
Like the lineup....agree that the only real objection is JR (should either be flipped w/Dunn or out of the lineup altogether)....also agree that Dunn should be able to hit the damn ball regardless of where he is in the order.

If Dunn batted 2nd all year do you think he would be a .300 hitter? No of course not. He is what he is. A .250 hitter who is going to drive in alot of runs, hit alot of homers, and take alot of walks. And he is a darn good player.

Hey now I'm not Marty. I have been wrong plenty of times like Felipe Lopez and the trade. You brought up me complaining about Edwin, and I think my complaining has been justified right? If Dunn bats in the 2 hole and see's his numbers go way up then he'll be right, and I will be wrong (again). I dom't think that will happen.

Sorry reds44, it just gets under my skin when people play off their opinion as fact and tell the other side not to bother posting their thoughts on the matter.

Homer Bailey, SP CIN

News: The Reds recalled left-hander Brian Shackelford from Louisville and optioned right-hander Elizardo Ramirez to the International League affiliate.

Analysis: This could mean that Homer Bailey finally gets his chance to enter the Reds rotation. I'm one of the few who isn't in favor of this. It's too late in the season. Homer's already thrown enough baseball this year. Don't want him pitching in a pennant race and wrecking his confidence if he fails.

I know this is the common sentiment, especially in regard to a young pitchers confidence, however, I don't buy it. I think your best 25 players should be at the major league level. Now if Homer is not one of the best 10-12 pitchers the Reds have that's fine. But if he is one of the best then he should be at this level.

Confidence comes and goes, pitchers are succesful and get hammered, the good ones bounce back. If a young pitcher gets hammered and it destroys his career I would guess it is more a matter of ability than confidence.

BTW, how old and how much minor league experience did Glavine, Smoltz, Maddux have when they were pitching for those awful Braves teams? I know they put up some awful numbers and recovered quite nicely.

Smoltz at 21

Todd Van Poppel made his (real) debut at 21

It's not so much age as being developmentally ready. By all accounts, his only major league pitch right now is his fastball. He can't control his breaking stuff. 1 pitch pitchers don't tend to fare very well in the majors -- esepecially as starters. I'd be nervous about bringing him out of the pen. I'm all in favor of bringing Homer up. But just a couple of concerns: I'd like to see him held to a strict 90 pitch count if brought up. Jerry Narron seemingly has zero respect for the concept of pitch counts; because of this I worry that he'll throw several high pitch-count games late in a season that should by all rights be about over for him.

I think the better idea is to use him as a first line of defense out of the bullpen for the rest of the season.
