Here’s some ‘This Week In Pete Rose History’ tidbits…..

AUGUST 15, 1970…Reds’ first baseman Lee May drives in all five runs in the 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium. May ties the score at 4-4 in the 9th inning with his second HR of the game before driving in the winning run with a single in the 14th inning. Reds’ rightfielder Pete Rose, the defending National League batting champ, suffers what could be the worst game of his career by going 0-for-7 with 5 consecutive strikeouts.

AUGUST 16, 1984 … The Reds trade infielder Tom Lawless to the Montreal Expos in exchange for Pete Rose. Rose returns to Cincinnati as a player-manager and will replace field manager Vern Rapp. The popular Rose played with the Reds for the first 16 seasons of his career before signing with the Phillies as a free-agent after the 1978 season.

AUGUST 16, 1986 … Reds’ third baseman Buddy Bell connects for a three-run homer in the fifth inning of the 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres in Cincinnati. Reds’ player-manager Pete Rose goes 0-for-4 against San Diego Padres’ pitchers Ed Whitson and Lance McCullers. Reds’ righty Bill Gullickson picks up his 9th win and reliever John Franco racks up his 19th save. This game will prove to be the last time that Rose’s name will appear in the starting line-up of a major league game.

AUGUST 17, 1986 … Forty-five year-old Reds’ player/manager Pete Rose pinch-hits for pitcher Ron Robinson in the bottom of the eighth-inning and strikes out against San Diego Padres’ ace reliever Goose Gossage. Rose’s strikeout comes in what will later be known as his final appearance as a player in a major league game. The fifteen-time .300 hitter finishes his final season with a .219 batting average. Final score: Padres 9, Reds 5, at Cincinnati.

I recorded Furman last night and I just heard Pete may be on his show Sept. 12.

Some people have called and would like Pete to team up with Marty in the booth upon reinstatement (which doesn't look too good at the moment :( ).
