Flip-flopping JR. and Dunn would make the first 6 very strong, but I still really like it.

Clayton in. Hmmmmm. Not the end of the world, but not good either.

LaRue in. No excuse whatsover playing someone batting .181 in a pennant race. None! LaRue must have some pictures of Narron. :dunno:

Narron has tried to make LaRue Harang's personal caddy. Ross catching 4 out of 5 games is OK with me. But, with a day game after a night game on Thursday, Ross in only 1 out of 3 games is unacceptable if that actually happens. I still wish Aurilia would get more PT at short. Offense improves drastically and defense isn't hurt much, if at all.

only when Milton pitches { since he is a flyball/KO pitcher }

Aurillia has poor range. at this point in his career he is a 1B/3B only

The good news is the bench is stacked for the Cards less than stellar bullpen.

Ross
Aurilia
Valentin
Hollandsworth
Castro

Ok, mostly stacked. Or like almost 3/5ths maybe.

It makes no sense whatsoever to play LaRue, he isn't going to magically get better and go 2-4 or even 1-4 against Carpenter, Clayton might (MIGHT) get a hit... We can't forfeit the 7,8,9 hole in the order when the biggest series of the year is coming up!!

I understand LaRue because he works well with Harang, and his defense goes without saying, but Aurilla should start over Clayton, in fact Clayton should be DFA!!!!!!

Patrick Bateman
08-15-2006, 07:46 PM
Aurilia should never play SS except in an emergency. He's that bad as a SS.

His offense is better than Castro/Clayton, but his defense is just to big a negative.

Pete Rose did talk about how managers go by opposing batting stats before making out a lineup.

Does Harang still have the best road ERA in the league? I knew he did earlier in the season....I was wondering because Carpenter has the best home ERA at 1.92.

1-0 Cards on Belliard single.

Boy, Belliard seemed more concerned about getting his 1000th hit ball than giving the Cards a 1-0 lead against the division rivial Reds.

Did anyone notice that?

I wonder why the Indians traded (got rid) of him?

Hate to say it but time to take Harang out. He's getting lit. Let's at least have a slim chance to make it a game by the end of this half inning.

Why can't he keep the pitches down! They are playing like they wrapped up the division last week. No sense of urgency here at all.

Harang throws a slider about 3 feet short.....Pujols scores.

Rolen walks....this isn't looking good at all. Especially with the way Carpenter is pitching tonight.

It's decisions like this that make me wish Narron was not coming back, as opposed to already having an extension. You don't even get a guy warming up until you're down 5-0, your pitcher is nearing 100 pitches thrown, and has given up 3 hits, a walk, and had a WP in the inning.

I understand his thinking though. You'd like to get Harang through this with the pitcher's spot to leadoff the next inning.

That almost makes me wish even more that Narron was gone. Why? Because he didn't even think to double switch a catcher into the 9 hole and the new pitcher to the 8 spot which just batted. What would we lose, Larue's bat?

Yes, but I'd rather use Harang against the back of the Cardinals lineup than bring in Coffey for 1 or 2 outs against them. Then PH for Coffey to lead off the next inning.

Except that you obviously don't have to bring Coffey in. We could have brought in Franklin with the double switch and the way we're hitting, he wouldn't bat again in the 8th spot until the 8th inning.

So you're going to just throw out all the games this season up to this point. They don't look clueless they look like a team that's getting beat by a top notch pitcher who's on his game.

Nah, I'm actually about 10,000x more optimistic than the vast majority of the people I've read on this board. Just disappointed in the seeming lack of urgency to the Reds.

I will shake the etch-a-sketch and root root root for Arroyo tomorrow.
