Reds batters need to do a better job of working the count and laying off Weaver's junk out of the strike zone.

Get into hitter's counts, don't be afraid to take a walk and give Weaver every opportunity to make a mistake - which he'll do frequently - and then crush the mistake.

Lohse is pitching brilliantly. Hopefully the offense takes advantage of it today.

Hmmm ... Junior works the count, laid off and/or fouled off Weaver's junk out of the strike zone and gave Weaver the opportunity to make a mistake.

Weaver made a mistake, Junior capitalizes!

That's just OUTSTANDING hitting!

Here's the report.

Bonds' trainer says jail threat won't break his silence, evokes Tom Brady's name

By PAUL ELIAS, Associated Press Writer
August 17, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds' personal trainer may go back to jail for refusing again to testify about his acquaintances before a grand jury. What he told federal prosecutors, however, has dragged Tom Brady's name into the BALCO case.

In a June statement to prosecutors about his intentions to stay mum, Greg Anderson said he and the New England Patriots quarterback had spoken over the phone -- but never established further contact.

"I had only one brief conversation with Tom Brady regarding a potential future workout," Anderson said. "I never had another phone conversation with him and never discussed it with anyone."

Anderson also told federal prosecutors June 23 that he would continue to withhold testimony from a newly assembled grand jury that is reportedly also investigating track coach Trevor Graham.

"I will not ever make statements about other people," Anderson said in the statement, which was included in court documents unsealed Wednesday. "That has always been my position and will continue to be."

On Thursday, prosecutors planned to ask U.S. District Judge William Alsup to send Anderson to prison if he stands by that policy.

Paula Canny, an Anderson attorney and friend, said Brady's name appears along with "10 to 20" other athletes that Anderson's grand jury subpoena lists as people the trainer should be prepared to answer questions about. Canny said investigators may have gotten Brady's name from Anderson's phone records seized by the government, though Anderson doesn't refer to any other athletes in his brief statement.

Brady attended the same Bay Area high school as Bonds. His agent, Donald Yee, couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday, and the New England Patriots declined comment on Anderson's statement.

"I don't have any information on it," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said. "I'm not going on hearsay."

Like Griffey's HR, that was just a great PA by Rolen. Got ahead of the count early, fouled a few off, then crushed a mistake pitch.

As a hitter, working the count to your advantage is absolutely crucial. As a pitcher, it's just as important to prevent that from happening.

Excellent outing again for Lohse. I'm loving the strikeouts he's piling up while also avoiding the walks. It's a bit too much to ask for Lohse to continue pitching this well the remainder of the season, but if he can give us some more solid starts down the stretch, it will be a godsend.

This game is not over and I'm overjoyed about Lohse. But as a general note, this is probably the most frustrating sports team I have ever followed. I almost miss the days when they were just a charmingly pathetic team, making us shake our heads with their constant whimsical foibles (but not really. if I truly enjoyed that, I'd be a Cubs fan.)

LOL that's great!!!

Ross bunting wasn't a bad idea....it did it's job.
it's all about matchups. You play to get the ones you like and try to take advantage of them instead of passing them up for worse ones.

When Wainright is on, he's very tough. At least he's out of the game now. Valentin has done a good job as backup catcher/ph this year. Disappointing at bat, but credit the pitcher.

Very interesting selection of Franklin. Narron obviously wants to stick with righty pitchers against Cards with Edmonds out. Coffey and Weathers worked yesterday.

Nailbiter.
