There has to be a DL move coming with Eddie. Do it now, that way he's back for the last couple of weeks of the year.

I really really don't get Narron's bullpen management. He seems more than happy to use our best (best being a relative term) relievers in lost causes or when we're up seven, then we end up with a floating turd like Franklin out there in the ninth.

Does "Baseball Guy" just not see the cause/effect relationship there?

in defense, he needs to have some regular action. He hasn't pitched since last Sunday I believe...

What if the Reds need Eddie tomorrow? Will he be available since he's now pitching?

It is a moot point now. :(

Lets hope Eddie isn't done for the season, if he is we are going to be in a world of hurt. He might not throw gas anymore, but he's the only closer we have that doesn't implode on a regular basis.

The look on his face wasn't good, like something just tore. :(

I am not positive, but I don't think Eddie has had much work lately. Probably one of those situations where you just want to get the guy in for 3 outs of work.

Guardado is going to have to go on the DL. It wouldn't have matterd or not if this was a save situation or in 3 days, it was going to happen.

Who is our closer now?

Eddie looks done for the rest of the year...

It was a fun few weeks.

Thank you Dr Kremcheck!

Dunn and Freel standing next to each other while the pitcher warms up.
Kinda looks like a shot from a Father/Son game.

We'll probably have to live through Jerry's "matchup" games

Has to be Todd Coffey IMO. I am not sure about all that "the right mentality" stuff, but he is the one that I trust the most in that pen.

Funny how that works out like that! A backdoor win for Mr. Franklin. I think this is only his 10th game in a REDS uniform. 3 decisions is a lot. Some here probably think 3 appearnces is too many for Franklin in 20 games. ;)

Well, he pitched better than Milton.

Why not Thursday in St. Louis then? My God, why throw the worst pitcher on your staff against that murderer's row when you've got an honest-to-God closer in the pen?

I guess it doesn't matter now. Guardado's arm was just a matter of time, I hoped he would give us 10-20 more games.

"And this one belongs to the Reds." The Reds are now only 2.5 games behind the Cardinals and still lead the wildcard race.

To be accurate, Freel was kneeling. Probably cause he is so tired. ;)

In other news, the Brew Crew is beating the Astros 5 to 2. Man, how bad is the Stros offense? They couldn't score with the easiest girl in school with a bottle of Mad Dog.

Good win, I didn't expect it after blowing a six run lead. ;)

Sucks to see Eddie G. get hurt, hopefully its not as bad as it looked.

Is there anyway possible the Reds win this game? Because I just don't see it.

Me too! :)

But we should have known that PITT would get 7 runs... 56 runs in 8 games vs. REDS coming in. Just par for the course... 63 runs in 9 games.

Many of us at Redszone have been pretty critical of Clayton. Based on radio version, he played a pretty good game tonight.

Might be a good idea, Chip...

* Aaron Harang vs. PITT 2006: 2 GS, 11IP, 14H, 8ER, 18K, 3BB, 6.55 ERA.
* Bullpen in those starts: 6IP, 6ER, 9.00 ERA.

No. He's uneffective when he plays every day. That's what a 3 for 5 night means.

If we're still in it come October, FCB, I'll buy you a beer or four in Pittsburgh. I'm flying in from Nevada for the last series if it comes to it.

A debatable opinion is fine. But let's not kid ourselves: Freel is the spiritual and darn near talent MVP of this ballclub.

Just please stop talking about him wearing down; it's unfounded, unjustifiable and wrong.

Sounds good. Here's hoping that Pujols tears both hamstrings some time in the next week.

Various observations from the game:

1) Freel made yet another great diving catch to save some runs. His play at the plate where he crashed into the catcher was great. He got busted trying to steel 2nd but successfuly stole 3rd at another point in the game.

2) Dunn has a pretty decent arm. He made a throw from semi-deep LF corner and from an awkard positon and using mostly his arm. The throw made it well past 3B to the cut off man.

3) Coffey pitched great tonight. 6 straight outs. Blamo.

4) Phillips hit a monster homer to straight away center. Somehow the CF jumped about 27feet in the air but didn't come up with the ball. It was a pretty amazing poke for him.

5) Clayton and Ross connected for a bang-bang play at home plate to prevent a run. Ross then picked off a runner a 2nd to the inning. I know he's weak on D but he was "in the pocket" tonight.

Judging from the Reds 2000-2005 records, my presence is more likely to inspire a walking of the plank, than a cakewalk... but thanks for the vote of confidence, VR. ;)

It would have been worse without you, friend.

I was worried that you were in the witness protection program...

We need you here, buddy. Welcome back.
