Yahoo transposed his K's as BB. Only 10 baserunners tonight (1.49 WHIP) and four in his final 1.2 IP after Narron wasted a huge opportunity to put Runs on the board.

You say "nutted out". I say "got lucky as all get out". And yes, we're watching the same game.

Perspective, I guess. It's sometimes tough to say a pitcher gave us a solid performance. Give me 6 2/3 with 3 runs after giving up 3 in one inning....yeah, I'll take that out of any Reds starter down the stretch. :)

Top of the ninth.

Ryan Freel steps in. No one has appreciated my earlier alcohol jokes, so I will switch to scrappiness.

A scrappy 2-1 count.
Some changes--Pete Happy is in right, De la rosa at third, bad 2-2 call.
Freel strikes out looking. Bad call. Don't get run, we need you.

Great job by Narron to get Freel out of there.

Yes. The Reds are a game ahead in the win column, but also have one more loss. (Reds are 67-61 and the Cards are 66-60.) Not sure why the Reds have played two more games - must have been a rainout for St. Louis.

Cards 66-60 (.5238)

I really love how this team's offense has "comback" written all over them.

I really dislike Jerry Narron's handling of the pitching staff. Dodging bullets is not a good way to manage a pennant race.

I really like how Edwin Encarnacion's re-insertion into the daily lineup card has produced a huge OPS gain for him.

I really hate the fact that it took that long to get Eddie E. back in there.

I really like how Rich Aurilia is slugging.

I really hate seeing Rich Aurilia at Shortstop.

I really like that Juan Castro has acquired only 13 At Bats this month.

I really hate that Todd Hollandworth has acquired any.

I really like Kyle Lohse's ERA thusfar.

I really hate Kyle Lohse's chances to continually pitch solid games.

I really like Wayne Krivsky's effort level.

I really hate that Wayne Krivsky's recent efforts have been necessary.

I really like the Reds.

I really hate that they haven't, when given much opportunity, run away with either the Division or the Wildcard.

I really hate that the Reds situation is still in doubt.

That was still stupid to let Milton bat.

I'm going to go out on a limb (at the risk of being stoned by RedsZone :D ) and disagree. I understand the argument for lifting Milton in that situation, and it is a very good argument, but I was OK with Milton batting in that situation for two reasons:

1) After giving up the two homers early, he had settled down somewhat. He didn't have his better stuff, and many might say he was lucky (and I might agree with that), but he had battled and had kept the Reds in the game, and his pitch count was still low.

2) Milton is not a bad hitter for a pitcher. (.217/.229/.326/.555, 10/46, with 4 of his 10 hits for extra bases.) When you look at the options, it's not like there is a great hitter coming off the Reds bench. LaRue and Hollandsworth are slumping badly, and Valentin is likely to be held back for late in the game (eighth or ninth inning). That leaves the two backup shortstops--Castro and Clayton. If the Giants had a lefty on the mound, then I would have considered lifting Milton for one of them. But against a righty in the sixth inning, I was OK with Uncle Milty hitting for himself, especially since the Reds have a short, five-man bench.

No changes on the HR list tonight.

Great win. I wish I could have stayed up and watched it, but I just couldn't; I was dead tired when I woke up this morning (I work 10-13 hours days). I typically work Monday thru Friday but a guy I know needs his property surveyed tomorrow, so I have to get up again at 6:30 in the morning and do that. Looks like I won't be able to stay up and watch the game again tonight. :(

Back to the game: Great, great win. Terrific start to this long west coast swing. I'm hoping for three of four in San Fran, two of three (sweep would be nice) in San Diego, and at least one of three in LA. That would be a 6-4 or 7-3 trip and would really help the Reds playoff hopes.
