OK.. fishing around a bit b4 the game and found out some milestones will be met 2nite.

In his 1st AB Bonds will Tie Ernie Banks for 38th all-time on the AB's List
If he gets 2 hits, he'll tie George Sisler for 42nd all-time in hits
Also will Tie and pass Al Kaline for 14th all-time in Games played during the series

And if Jr can get 7 RBI's he'll tie Goose Goslin for 24th all time :)
The Big one, if Jr hits 3 HR's in the series he will Tie Reggie Jackson for 10th all-time

4 Hrs for Dunn to reach 200 in his Career

Id forgotten about the milestone tracker lol...duh.. its cool though.. some stuff going on behind the scenes this week.

I like this line up and I hope Griff and Dunn make their milestones. Bonds can make the games or AB's, but no offense related ones.

Hennesey 4-2, 3.62 ERA as a starter.

Yeah. He's made all of 8 starts this season, got rocked in his last start, and pretty well stunk up the joint in 21 starts last season.

what does that mean.....

Someone asked why dunn was batting #5, and if it was because he's not a contact hitter.

Thats my reply.. He strikes out too much to bat higher IMO.. but 5th you can take full advantage of his power with runners on. Not to mention the protection he provides for Edwin, and Jr for that matter depending on the situation

His K's are pretty much irrelevant in determining where he hits.

He hits 5th because Griffey has to hit 3rd (that's a separate debate), and Narron wants to split of the 2 LH hitters with EE. Otherwise, with our top OBA guy hitting 2nd (Hatteberg), you'd have 3 LH hitters in a row.

The answer seems to be Jerry likes Hattie at #2, and Junior has to bat #3.

I cant say I disagree about the former, and with him starting to heat up, the latter. Edwin should bat 4th, so that leaves 5th. Not a demotion by any means, just a potent lineup.

Maybe so. But Jr is starting to heat up, not a bad idea to ride it now, considering we had to suffer through a horrendous July to get here.

Overall, the truth is that I really can not vehemently disagree with Narron's recent lineups, and I think it speaks more to the level of talent than anything.

Jr is the more seasoned hitter, and CAN hit for contact when needed. You want your #3 hitter to: 1, drive in your 1, 2 hitters or.. 2, be on base for ur #4 and #5 hitter.

#3 hitter is typically your BEST BAT. The one you count on the most IMO.. some may think your best hitter is the one who gets on base more, or the one with the bettr avg. other than ur leadoff. Jr has the patiance to bat #3 and i just dont feel dunn is better than jr as a #3 hitter.

Besides if you bat Dunn #3 his chances of being at the plate with no one on are a bit higher.. at #5, if any 2 batter ahead of him get on in the first inning he's batting with a runner in scoring possition. Not to mention his power #'s.

if u flop dunn and jr in THIS LINEUP.. id walk dunn everytime and let the inexperance of edwin GIDP

Welcome to beautiful SBC Park in San Francisco, for the opener of four between the suddenly resurgent Giants and the most loveable and entertaining mediocre ballclub of all time, your Cincinnati Reds. Thanks to a 5-2 New York win over the Cards, the Redlegs will move into a tie for first with a win.

The illustrious Jon Miller is on play-by-play, and I can confirm that given his enormous bald round head and pinched facial features that he continues to look like an animated billiard ball.

On the hill for the Giants is Brad Hennessey. He's pitched mostly out of the pen this season and it was somewhat surprising news that he was slated to start this game.

The Reds will send up Freel, Hatteberg, and Griffey in the top of the first.

Like i said.. batting dunn #3 in THIS LINEUP.. id walk him EVERYTIME and make edwin beat me, especially with a runner on and an out.

now if they do that to JR, then they HAVE TO pitch to edwin, cause you dont want dunn at the plate with 2 or 3 runners on base EVER!! and 1 out.. i mean we the reds fans want that.. but no one else does

Just my thoughts on it... and the way id think

Brad Hennessey takes the hill--his ninth start of the year. In his last start, he gave up a Haynesian seven earned in one inning against the Dodgers...let's hope this is a trend.

Ryan Freel leads off for the Redlegs. Happily, he's trimmed his ridiculous goat scruff to an acceptable level (perhaps in anticipation of the weekend's nightlife? Pedro Feliz makes a nice play moving toward second and throws out the scrapster. One away.

From the pre-game show: In 1987 the Giants traded a future Cy Young Award winner for a future MVP. Name these two worthies.

That would be a good reason to bat Dunn third. If he OBA was 1.000 becasue he was always walked , I like EE's chances of not hitting into too many DP's.

Really, you don't want Dunn hitting third because he might get on base too much?

Dunn's OBA has been close to 100 points more than Griffey's this year. THat spells 3rd in the lineup.

Not arguing your all wrong... not saying im right.. its just what I feel is the best right now. for him to bat 5th and protect Edwin vs RHP's and Aurilia vs LHPs They both been doing well because of it, and Dunn gets his regardless..... they see pitches because he's behind them... move him and they see diff stuff and it could throw them into... well i wont say it

I've not done much traveling to the left coast, but I would think that now the players feel like it's 10:48 instead of 7:48 and they have to ramp it up for the next 3 hours, when the body is geared towards rest.

Why do you always try to start something with me? I didn't do anything to you, so why do you always act like an ass to me? Back off.

You're probably right, but for once it would be nice if you didn't give up when we fall behind by 2-3 runs.

Nature Boy steps in, promising to bring PAIN to his old ballclub.

Absolutely garbage strike call on the first pitch, that was six inches outside. Grrrrr.

Dunn rocked that single, BTW, between the second baseman and the first baseman in the shift.

Aurilia with a soft fly ball to Finley. Great pitch by Hennessey. And that reminds me, time for some bourbon.

Through three and a half, Eric Milton's wonderful pitching stakes the Reds to a dominant 0-3 deficit.
