No surprises

SAN FRANCISCO -- I've got to say, it's nice not to have the urge to post the lineup every day anymore. The consistency has worked well for everybody, I think, except maybe Clayton/LaRue/Valentin.

Anyway, it's the same group tonight, except the expected start for LaRue with Harang on the mound. LaRue has caught 23 of Harang's last 24 starts and the last 13 in a row heading into tonight.

Matt700wlw

LaRue also has some good numbers against Morris, if I'm not mistaken.

Ross has been all sorts of clutch the last few weeks, though. I don't see how you can justify putting his bat on the bench right now.

Well, you really can't, but if you're going to play LaRue, I'd rather it be against someone he has a history against...

LaRue wouldn't hit me and my 78 MPH heat tonight. Something's off with him. Doesn't matter if he has a history against the pitcher or not. This is not the LaRue of 03-05.

LaRue is guarenteed an AB in the 7,8, or 9th inning tonight. You can PH for him there. He has been a GREAT PH'er for us too.

something is off and I wonder what it is. Some of it is of course luck of where it's hit, he's hit some good slugs and they've been caught. There's been a lot of anxiousness because he's not been hitting and Ross is. He was the starter and now he isn't which brings on some pressure.... lots of things but it boils down to he isn't hitting and that's what people focus on.

Wheelhouse

It would be great to spank Morris tonight because 1) I've always hated him and 2) he turned his nose up at the Reds as a FA (I know it was under DanO and it's a money thing, but still...)

You have to play LaRue to keep him sharp. Catching is a brutal grind. This time of year, they are all wearing down from all the bumps and bruises that happen every single night from foul tips and the wear and tear of staying in that crouch.

You have to play everyone on the bench every now and then or they'll be too rusty to help when you really need them.

He's here because he became Arroyo's personal catcher. And started to hit.

yea yea... but im just tired of 'personal catcher" being the reason someone starts.

i want them to start because our STARTER.. and best catcher on our team needs a REST.. or cause they are hot.. and im gonna play them to they simmer down

not because a pitcher MUST have them.. just my opinion..

what happens if its Game 5 in the 1st round of the playoffs, and larue has NEVER got a hit against the pitcher we are facing.. and ross has hit 3 hr's on him this year and beat him to death... yet harangs starting. gotta draw the line somewhere

This is one of the few things that I really feel the 'no respect' issue over. I don't care if they don't lead Sportscenter with the Reds, or if they don't talk about us having a shot, but Harang deserves some Cy Young chatter at least. The rookie in Florida gets more hype for CY than Aaron.

That pushes Griffey's August OBP over .400 and August Slg% over .500 ~ the first month that he's managed to produce at that clip all season, if he keeps it up.

He's walking at by far the best clip of the season, and also hitting for nearly the most EBH power he has at any juncture of the year. It would be perfect timing for the stretch run, if Griff finally regained enough of his former plate coverage mastery in time to help carry this team down the stretch.

Harang already at 41 pitches

That is a problem with him. He is not very pitch efficient. I know his defense is not exactly outstanding but he needs something that he can use to either get that strikeout or get that ground ball when he needs it. But most great pitchers were not finished products at this stage of their carrears yet so I am hopeful.
