Thank you for postin tonight.. I have been unlucky as of late.. 0-2 and 1-2 for the season posting game threads. We didn't have to face Kent last time.. him added to this line-up is just going to be hectic. We need to get on the board fast and often.

No, Dunn just can't hit Penny.

I read about it the other day.

I've got a feeling Michalak is gonna get tourched.

I don't usually pick on the lineup, but don't love sitting Dunn. If he doesn't hit Penny, drop him down to sixth (where Hollandsworth is now hitting). Dunn hasn't been good lately, but he tends to come out of his slumps suddenly and is viewed by the opponent as a big threat. LA probably views Dunn's seat on the bench tonight as a big favor by Narron.

Hope Hollandsworth has a good night, just personally think team has to live or die with Dunn down the stretch.

Let's hope Michalak keeps Dodgers off balance tonight.

I agree with you but I agree with sitting him as well. Dunn has been a work horse..err Donkey. We will need a well rested Dunn for the remainder of the series and its not a bad move.. not a good move as Dunn is a huge part of the offense.. but I think it will favor us in the remaining 2 games

I think you just need to regain a little perpective. This team is still over achieving and teams have highs and lows throughout a year. It's a long season and you can't approach it on a fan level the way that some folks do with football or you will get completely burnt out and angry and that's no fun.

I never felt that way this year which is probably why I've yet to feel "crushed" at any point this year. I've enjoyed this season and suffered some frustration as of late, but from about mid-June it was clear to me that we were simply an average team in a below average league. IMO, it is physically impossible for the Reds to string together winning streaks that you need to make the playoffs.

This team has never once felt "special" to me in any way, shape, or form. They play hard, I've enjoyed the year, and I'm thrilled we're in a race, but compared to 1999, 2006 isn't even close in terms of exciting or enjoyment.

I agree. No need for pessimism. This is the tough stretch in the Reds' schedule but it will be over soon.

But as for the NL, the Mets are in that league. I have seen them destroy the Cards and beat the Phils pretty handily this week. Mets just had an 8 and 1 homestand. If Pedro and Glavine are able to pitch, nobody in the NL is stopping them this year.

I posted on this site at the beginning of the month that this road trip would be the make or break point of the season. What is it about these West Coast trips that make the Reds come apart at the seems. It's like clockwork. It's automatic and I can't understand why. If this was something all teams experienced, you'd think the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres would have such high winning percentages at home that they would all three be in contention every year. But for as long as I have followed the Reds, even when they've been good, the west coast trips are momentum killers.

Dude, I don't do the neg thing. I admire your optimism. I used to have it; as recently as last Friday. Then, we put up 2 runs in 3 games, and the Cards ripped off 3 against the Cubs; the final game against a career minor leaguer named Les Waldorf (or something like that). The Cards know how to win and we don't. I knew then that we have no chance at the division title, and our chances of holding off the 49 teams still in contention for the W/C were ridiculously slim. I'm currently making my peace with the fact that we are not playoff bound. The first couple of days are going to be rough, and I ask you all in advance to forgive me.

We could lose by a score of 100-0 over 4 games and it's only 4 games. Sure, the trend doesn't look good...but all this does is negate the 4 game winning streak we had last week. And thats assuming a loss tonight which I don't yet concede.

Two possibilities. First is that Phillips was a dead duck at second so he just turned back. Second is that Phillips intentionally got in run down in an attempt to get runner from third home. Either way, the result was not good.

What in the world was THAT? Talk about over-zealous with the hit and run. Penny's having a hard time thrwoing strikes and they're hit and running eveyr pitch with Ross at the plate. He didn't get to swing at a good pitch. So with one out and a man on first and third, they take the bat out of one of their best hitters' hands. I don't get it>

Cyclone792
08-28-2006, 11:33 PM
Well, I could have said this last night, but people would have been irritated with it. That 1-3 start to the west coast trip is bad, but what made it worse is Michalak was scheduled to start twice in the final six games, first tonight and then probably Sunday in San Diego. And as we've known since Michalak has thrown a pitch for our organization, any game that Michalak starts is just like any game that Dave Williams or Joe Mays started in that it is a virtual forfeit before the first pitch is ever thrown.

Sure, there's always a chance we can score eight runs and pull out a win, or even a slimmer chance that the opposing hitters don't show up and we eek out a win, but the chances are just so lousy that it's not worth getting excited about.

At the end of the season it's going to be painful to add up the final damages of the Williams/Mays/Michalak trio.
