Inning over after a Garciaparra fly out to Freel in right field.
That was a heckuva play by Aurilia to snag that grounder and get a throw to home quick enough to turn two. An absolute inning changing play.

I'm just trying to figure out why playing for one run in the sixth is a good idea. Team just took the lead and should be looking to pile on after a double with none out. Giving away an out at that point just didn't make any sense.
You're correct. Even if you suceed in moving the runner over with the sac bunt it just means that the Dodgers will probably walk the PH so you've burned a guy for nothing. Yikes!

It's really not sound strategy however you look at it. In that situation, I'd much rather have Clayton swinging the bat from the first pitch.
Giving him the bunt sign with two strikes is absolute madness, but the exact kind of 'gut feeling' decision that has been blowing up in the coaching staff's faces recently.

I have to agree with OBM.....on the Dunn to the 2 hole.
I thought the way AD was hitting a month ago....it would not matter if he was moved down...in order to get more RBI opportunities.
But if he hit's better at the 2 spot....keep him there.
The Reds need a productive Dunn more than a productive SH....who is struggling big time right now.
After EE K'd 2 times against a taller version of Michilak......you almost knew it would be a long night for him. Like some have said....he needs to drive one the other way....he can do that and do it well. If he stops.....then pitcher's will just make him get out.
Still do not know why Griffey was upset in the earlier innings for pulling a ball that was about 3 inches outside......what did he think was going to happen?

Basically, if you bunt there, you're playing for the Sac Fly but if there were a profile for that kind of action, neither player would fit it. Freel hasn't registered a Sac Fly since 2003 and in 1,651 PA he's got exactly one. A hit was required and regardless of how bad Clayton is I'd rather have three opportunities rather than two.
I wonder why I haven't heard Marty address Freel's 1,400+ PA streak with no Sac Flies. Hmn.

Gagne is toast. He'll never pitch effectively again. Steroids? You have to wonder.
Dodgers reliever throw 90-95 mph and have great control. Our revamped bullpen throws 79 mph fastballs and walk a lot of folks or allow 4 straight base hits. We've got a long way to go.

Another nice inning by Weathers.
The J.D. Drew out was big. It wasn't pretty, but it was a big out. Weathers will walk a lot of batters and Drew will draw a lot of walks so the OBP potential there was huge for the Dodgers. Allowing Drew to reach base with only one out and Kent up could have been disasterous.
Luckily, Weathers escaped and retired everybody, including Drew.
