All jokes and kidding aside why did they send Michalak down to Sarasota?

Probably didn't want a domino effect to start. Wasn't good enough to stay on the Reds. Didn't want to send him to Louisville and have to cut someone from Louisville to make room for him. Just a guess.

In order to recall him within 10 days, they had to send him to a team whose season will be over in that time period. Louisville, Chattanooga, and Dayton might all be in the playoffs. Even Billings season runs till Sept. 7th. There's sort of a loophole that exists in the 10 day recall rule, and the Reds are using it. Thanks for the info, Marc Lancaster.

Louisville would have had a roster spot for him... Deno's.

My friend who played in the minors with the Reds back in the 50's didn't even know about some of the internal transactions that happened with his contract. I made a copy of his contract status card at the Hall of Fame and he was surprised by it.

There might be times they move a guy to one level because they've got room on their DL, sometimes it's like this where they can recall Michalek earlier than 10 days now.

5 appearances for Arizona in 98, 18 starts in 35 total appearances for Toronto and Texas in 01, 13 appearances for Texas in 02. See my signature for all his "stops" in the minor and major leagues.

B/c that's where he belongs?

He had his moment of glory in an emergency appearance in Philly. That's it. 15 mins of Reds fame, now do the team a favor and go back to the Minors where you belong.

In all seriousness, it's a roster procedural move, in case (gasp) we need him for a playoff roster. Wow do I hope that's not even remotely the case.

I'd rather go 1 arm short in September and beyond than have 1 of those arms be Michalak.
