We basically have Deno in for Griffey. Otherwise it's our normal LH pitcher line-up.

With improved defense in the line-up, this may be just as good as our normal line-up against lefties.

Griffey gets the day off

Lifetime Griff is 22 for 75 (.293) with 8 HR vs. Wells (OPS 1.031).

With Milton pitching OF defense is important.

Griffey has 8 HRs vs Wells (which may be the most vs any pitcher) and has hit him better than anybody on the team.

Just sayin'

IMO this is the season today. A win and only half game out of the wild card and not too bad for a terrible road trip. A loss and it's 2 1/2 behind. I think it may be too big of a margin for this team to overcome. I don't think it's a good idea having Griffey out with this huge a game unless he's injured.

Matt700wlw

A win would be very key today.

The fact that this brutal west coast trip is coming to an end is a plus as well.

Almost enough to make me wish that the Reds played in the AL.
Freel & Deno chasing down the long flies and Junior at DH perhaps hitting some.

Clayton has a better OBA vs. LH pitchers than Phillips this season.

Not that much better that it makes that much a difference, as both are excellent. It does allow Phillips to get more RBI chances.

I'd go with Phillips, but it's not as bad as it seams on first blush.

Jerry probably adheres to the old school idea of the #2 guy being a singles hitter who can run a little bit, who can lay down a bunt or push the ball to the right side on a hit and run.

He might see Phillip's swing as more condusive to hitting gappers -- or longer-- to produce more RBI at #7.

Krivsky has made some good deals, he has made some poor deals(focus on the return, not whats given up however). Considering that Krivsky has only been on the job for 7 months, the time for firing people, redesigning departments hasn't been long, espcially during the regular season.

I think "some" fans want it so bad, they will tear down anybody they can monday morning QB. Krivsky deserves his chance.

best reliever ERA in NL ... or as least used to

Reliever ERA is often ludicrously misleading. First, because a reliever could allow every inherited runner to score all season and end up with a 0.00 ERA. Second, because even season inning totals for relievers are small enough to be largely luck-dependent.

Depending on this misleading variable is what led Krivsky to vastly overrate both Majewski and Cormier, both of whom have been disasters for the Reds this season.
