Per team press notes. The Rockies are sending along some cash as well, don't know how much. Colorado receives the always exciting "future considerations".

Fun fact of the day, the Reds now have 34 active players, tied with the Mets for most in the Majors.

I would tell WK to give it a rest but when Michalak and Johnson are on the menu ... of course he won't impact the outcome of this season.

Look at Sunny's stats, he has pitched well in PCL when away from the the altitude of Colorado Springs.

ERA at home 7.17 in 64IP
ERA on the road 2.82 in 60IP with 4 HR

He also sports a G/F ratio of 2.0

I think this is the first Asian-American to play for the Reds in this century. I think.

I'm going to try really hard to be excited that Sun-Woo Kim is now a Cincinnati Red.

One thing we've all noticed- WK does not bring guys in "just in case." They usually get into the games right away.

I'm going to the game tonight; so I guess Sunny will be pitching in the 8th in the middle of a tight game. Hope to see some of those ground balls he's been throwing in the PCL...

7 Innings, 17 hits, 15 ER, 8 BB, 4 Kat this point does it really matter? The Reds do need a starter on Wednesday and I for one had seen enough of Michalak after his outing in Philly.

Kim's last outing was August 31st.

Does this still hold true with Ramirez going to the 60 day DL recently?

flyer85

Does this still hold true with Ramirez going to the 60 day DL recently?pretty sure it does. A player has to be in an organization by Sept 1 to be eligible.

Of course, with the recent play, it is likely moot.

I'll give Krivsky credit for one thing if nothing else; he realizes that replacement level talent is just that, replacable. You cycle thorugh it and you don't hang on to it when it fails. If you have a guy who's upside is a #5 starter and he's not pitching like a #5 starter, then move on.

O'Brien seemed to get a few replacement level guys and then run with them even as they performed below replacement. Bowden would get replacement level guys and try to turn them in to average major leaguers. I'm glad Krivksy seems to be taking the proper approach with these low risk low reward types.

I think you're right. A player has to be in the organization by September 1st.

But if Eddie Guardado makes it back, he would be postseason eligible, correct?

At least he's young.

Not much for the K's, inconsistent control, and decent HR's.

One plus is he's been in hitters parks since 2002 (excluding his run with the Nats where he had his best success, although he was surprisingly decent with the Rockies last season). So you might see a little better success in the future, but that's a fairly minimal point.

Nothing special here, except if you throw enough crap at the wall, eventually somehting will stick.

I bet he starts the game that we need a #5 starter for.

Recently (was it yesterday), the writer talking to Marty said that the #5 starter was a secret, and Narron said it was a RH secret. Obviously, it made no sense to keep it a secret if it was Johnston. Now it makes sense, Wayne knew he was close to getting Kim.

I like this trade. We are desparate for pitching, why not audition Kim? He might be of some use next year. He can start or relieve.. why not?

Kim may have gotten pasted this year, but he pitched quite decently in a 12-game stint for the Rockies last year.

But this is another control pitcher that doesn't miss a lot of bats. Not sure why we're stockpiling those guys.

How is it possible to dislike a trade where nothing was actually given up?

Well, tecnhnically, neither Kim nor Bong are Asian American, both are Korean nationals. Bruce Chen was, as some noted, born in Panama, of Chinese descent (his grandparents came from China). Since he was born in the Americas, it would be technically correct to refer to him as an Asian American. Danny Graves, as others have noted, was born in Vietnam with a Vietnamese mother and an U.S. citizen father. He would correctly be termed Asian American. I don't care what we call him, I just want him to pitch well!

Sun Woo Kim also had some pretty good games in previous seasons, I don't know if it was mentioned on the first page as I just skimmed that page and then read page 2, I know breaking all the rules of internet board posting, but I am tired and it is sorta late after having to get up at 6 AM this morning and having to do the same rest of the week after the LOOOOOONG weekend. But according to cbs.sportsline, in 2005, he was a combined 6-3, with a 4.90 ERA in 24 games with Washington and Colorado. His 10 starts last year included a complete-game shutout of the San Francisco Giants for the Rockies at Coors Field. That complete-game shutout at least shows some promise, so I am at least looking at it that way and hopefully this one can be another magic one that Wayne has pulled off similar to that of Lohse and Arroyo at times this season.

No, he has it right. This Kim, Sun Woo, also known as 'Sunny', pitched fairly well on the road for Colorado Springs in AAA, Pacific Coast League. His AAA stats are available HERE (http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Sun-Woo%20Kim&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=279615). He has pitched 124 innings in AAA this year.

He needs to watch out tomorrow for Barry Bonds. Bonds is 3 for 6 career off Sunny, with 2 HRs. Time for some walks when he comes up!

Maybe Bonds will bump his melon head on the ceiling when climbing out of his unholy temporal stasis.

News you can use: Reliever Todd Coffey was available again on Friday after he missed Wednesday's game with an intense stomach ailment. Coffey said he spent much of the past two days sleeping and trying to stay hydrated.

Lefty pitcher Michael Gosling cleared waivers on Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday when the Reds acquired Kim from the Rockies.
