I guess it's still not Deno's time.

Situation is past critical and the best we can come up with for RF is Hollandsworth. Sad

I'm sure Hollandsworth had a HR off Morris back in 98 or something.

With Narron, it never will be.

If you HAVE to play Hollandsworth, Deno IMO could be a better choice than Freel to play CF and lead off against a righty.
(Freel .728 OPS vs. RHP in 2006).

Would you really expect anything different out of Narron?

Choosing Hollandsworth over Deno is as easy as falling out of bed.

Not only does Deno not start in favor of Hollandsworth, Narron slaps humility all over Phillips and Ross by batting Hollandsworth in front of them.

It's all about your handedness, not your ability. So Todd is being rewarded for either being born that way or having a mean dad who also coached his T-Ball team.

Nope. 3-for-21 with two doubles, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

.143/.217/.238.

Meanwhile, Denorfia is batting .500/.500/1.000 against Morris. That's right- a double in two trips.

(cue someone complaining about the thousand-plus OPS points we're giving up)

Rich Aurilia is OPS'ing .882

What deal with the devil did he make. Yipes.

It wasn't a deal with the devil. It was a deal with the God of platoons. The Aurilia/Hatteberg platoon has simply been the best decision Narron has made all year.

Over the last three years, Aurilia has hit .100 OPS points higher against lefties. This year, he's gone extreme, absolutely destroying left handed pitching to the tune of a 1.150 OPS, while maintaining his pedestrian .746 against righties.

Rich has 24 extra base hits in 122 AB versus lefties and 21 in 245 AB versus righties. To put it another way, against lefties he's Albert Pujols, against righties he's Todd Hollandsworth...

Big Leaguers are in big leaguers for a reason....even the worst of the bunch have good days once in a while and are better than any of us ever will be.

It's just a gut feeling -- his stats are very good. There is a part of me that wonders also whether Cincinnati was just a better fit for him or whether he responded well to the coaching here. I still expect him to drop off a bit, and I expect LaRue to get more playing time as long as he's still on the team (as great a year as Ross had, Jason's had a horrible one, and i think they'll meet somewhere closer to the middle and the playing time will reflect that). I know that a lot of people are down on LaRue right now, but really, they're not a bad platoon -- currently horrific offense with great athletic catching vs. amazing offense vs. groan-inducing defense (sometimes). The Reds need to follow up with a win tomorrow, or today means very little, if anything.
Exactly. The season is definetly on life support, but there is still a pulse. Winning tomorrow is much, much needed with the Pirates coming into town followed by the Wild Card leaders.

There is still a chance to grab that Wild Card spot.

That is Bronson Arroyo's third complete game and first shutout of the season.

Arroyo and Aaron Harang have now combined for 7 CGs and 3 ShOs. The last time the Reds had more than seven complete games was in 2000, when they had eight. (Harnisch 3, Villone 2, Bell, Dessens, and O.Fernandez)

The last time the Reds had three shutouts in a season was in 1999. (Harnisch 2, and Parris)

The game thread over in Reds Live is one page long and contains no ridiculousness. I say we merge them again, give those guys a chance to a more active computer screen rather than just a wall.

I agree.

Yes. We need to get those guys "back in the game."

Agreed. I think we have to finish at least 8 games over .500 to win the WC. That will be a tall order for this team to do in 26 days.

Still realistic. It's just winning every series from here out.

Fairly easy schedule. Isn't it about the Reds turn to run off 6 straight? Seems like every WC team has had their run, except the Rojo's
