I still say the pitcher has a lot of say over whether a batter is going to be patient.

There's the pitcher who has just walked the previous two batters, and this batter should be patient enough to let him throw some more balls.

There's the pitcher who is throwing strike after strike, and being patient is going to lead to a low-pitch 1-2-3 inning.

The point of being patient is to get a pitcher to walk you, or to get your right pitch, or to wear down the pitcher early. If the pitcher isn't going to walk you, or the right pitch is the first pitch, or the pitcher is going to retire you quickly on called strikes, it's best to go for the pitch you can hit whenever it comes.

Is it Kearns and Lopez' departure? This series they didn't face Cain, they didn't face Schmidt, yet they have seven runs (at GABP) in 23 innings.

Wouldn't have thought that, down the stretch, a lack of offense would be this team's undoing.

I wasn't opposed to the trade, just the numbers don't make it look to good. Lopez approaching .300, Kearns close to .250, Bray approaching a 5 ERA, and Majewski's inflated ERA of over 11....We'll just leave Clayton out of this :D

Deno is patient guy. However, he has been pressing to hit with power IMO, that isn't what he should be doing. Taking pitches, even good pitches, setting up for flares and walks is.

AK was tearing up AAA......if the net was on during that year....he would have been the Deno of 1985.

BUT he was beyond awful as a fielder....made Dr. Strangeglove Dick Stuart....look like Keith Hernandez.

Ross is a better hitter.....not as bad of a fielder....although he does seem to have some bad moments.

Yeah, I remember Knicely. I thought the guy was going to be our savior. Knicely taught me that MLEs aren't always accurate. (Good minor league numbers don't necessarily mean good ML numbers). IIRC, Knicely didn't hit that well either. I think he was tried briefly at 1b too (might be remembering wrong).

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but the Giants TV guys spent a lot of the game on Monday checking out the pretty girls from the booth with binoculars. I sat in the Club Home seats behind home plate and could clearly see into their booth. Between most every inning they were up their pointing them out and then using the binocs.

Kinda creepy after a while.
