What Wayne Has Done For Us Lately

Wayne's been getting a lot of criticizm lately, but I think most of it is undeserved. The Keans/Lopez deal hasn't panned out--in fact, he'd look like a genius if not for that trade--but we've given up pretty much nothing for the rest of these guys, and they've been pretty productive for us.

I understand your point but I wouldn't label Bray, Cormier, Franklin, Majewski, or Clayton "pretty productive". I'd label most of them as "pretty bad".

To be fair to the original poster, I think he meant that the players other than those involved in "the deal" have been pretty productive...which, of course, still doesn't excuse Cormier and Franklin from that "pretty bad" list.

Every GM for every team is going to have his share of turkeys - taking a risk is a part of that job, and if they begin shying from risks, they become Dan0.

These are all players he traded for in the past two months. And yeah, when I said "pretty productive", I meant the players that weren't involved with the Lopez/Kearns deal. And in regards to Cormier and Franklin, if a 4-3 record with a 4.60 ERA is "pretty bad", then they need to change the definition of "average" in the dictionary.

They both have WHIPs approaching 2.00, and Franklin has more walks than Ks. Neither has gotten the job done. It's like Esteban Yan, who pitched poorly despite his 3.60 ERA in Cincinnati.

Look at it this way, you only have to hit 3 out of 10 to be a good offensive player, so his "batting average" certainly isn't near the Mendoza Line.

I'm sorry--I'm not trying to snap at anyone. What I'm trying to say is, overall, other than the Lopez/Kearns trade, we've gotten a lot of production considering how much we've had to give up for it.

Oh, there are certainly more hits than misses. Trust me, I'm not on the "Fire Krivsky" bandwagon. I just don't see Cormier or Franklin as a hit so far, that's all.

I'm still just in shock that Kriv hasn't been able to unravel the ills of the entire franchise in a mere 8 months. I mean, how much time does the guy need? Geez.

Scouting has been decimated since the 1980's and the farm system since the 1990's. The previous ragime was focused on not losing money moresoe than fielding a competitive team. Case in point, 30 or so people in the front office when BC took over. 30? For all that has to be acomplished, that's not too many people.

Some of his moves worked out well. Some haven't worked out well. But the team went from being picked to finishing in 5th place to being competitive until the end of August. It looks like it will take a miricle to make the playoffs, and I know that is the ultimate goal but come on folks, those who expected to go all the way with a .500 team and a franchise that's been in dissrepair since the late 1980's. were kidding themselves.

At the end of the day Baseball is entertainment. We were all entertianed by this team until the end of August - compare that to other teams in the recient past. I'd say we got our monies worth.

I guess I missed the memo that said a GM had to be perfect, always "win" his trades and never have a deal not work out.
