Yeah, because everything else has been working so well.then why not play Harris, Castro and Denorfia as well? Afterall, they haven't been playing during the slide.

I like Hopper batting 2nd... Give's us speed at the top... However, I definitely would have Edwin's in there over Clayton, this is do or die time, every at-bat is crucial!

I don't call Nixon or Gonzo a broken down player... They are showing no signs of slowing down right now... a 1-2 year deal would be sufficient enough... I just have a feeling Krivsky is gonna deal Dunn this offseason for pitching, pitching and more pitching...

joshnky
09-15-2006, 03:49 PM
You do realize that Nixon was 7 homeruns and a .794 OPS while Dunn has 40 home runs and .884 OPS. You think the offense is bad now.

I see a team that will score far fewer runs than this year's version and the defense would still be very bad. You better have a dynamite pitching staff if you want to be a .500 club with this lineup.

I meant to put Nixon/Gonzo in that spot... I'd probably rather have Dunn than Nixon and Gonzo, but I'm just saying that's what I feel Krivsky will do... If Dunn can fetch a good younger starting pitcher, That'd be great... Do you really think Gonzo's .300 AVG 20 HR 90 RBI with clutch hitting would be a big decline to Adam Dunn???

Okay, my bad I guess Gonzo's 50 doubles and .290 AVG. shows me he's done... some guys stay in shape and have good years... I'm not saying to sign him up for a multi-year deal.....

He is 39 years old. Those numbers will not improve and will probably decrease. Dunn (despite the grief he gets) still is young and has potential to bounce back better next year. If anything is numbers won't be any worse.

09-15-2006, 04:02 PM
Here is what it comes down to. If you trade Dunn you should get good young pitching in return. To complement the young pitching it would be ideal to have young players so that the Reds can make a serious run in a couple years. Stocking up on young pitching to go along with a lineup of KGJ, Gonzo, Hat, and RA would be a bad idea. Trading Dunn would be with the purpose of rebuilding and you don't rebuild with a cast of old players. Thats just how I see it.

Why does trading Dunn constitute rebuilding?? Have you watched him the last 2 months... He has been horrendous, and I really hope he improves but I just can't stand this production... You should read this column, it's what had me thinking....http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060915/COL03/609150451/1082/SPT

Dunn's slump seems very strange to me. He had a .795 and .846 OPS in Aug/Sept last year which isn't great but not as bad as this. So he is probably not tiring. Is he pressing to much with the team in the WC race?

Adam Dunn's most productive season came in 2004, when he posted career highs in batting average (.266), home runs (46), RBI (102), runs (105), hits (151), doubles (34), on base percentage (.388), slugging average (.569) and OPS (.957). I don't see any improvement in Dunn's numbers as he's aged!

I've already read the article and understand what you're saying but regardless of his recent slump Dunn is the most feared hitter on this team. When you trade someone lilke that it usually means rebuilding because that is a lot to replace. Regardless of your feelings on Dunn you have to admit that his production would be difficult to replace without bringing in someone like Vernon Wells or maybe Torii Hunter.

I didn't say he would improve just that he had potential contrasted to Gonzalez who has very little chance of putting up an improved year at 40.
