Krivsky regarding Bailey, Bruce and Votto ...

The "most logical choice" for Homer Bailey starting 2007 is in AAA Louisville.
Jay Bruce is in instructional league and will likely start 2007 in High-A Sarasota.
Joey Votto is at a level between AAA Louisville and the Reds.

Narron left him in too long. Bray should have been in there against Amezaga. Not really disputable.

Managers often fail in that spot when the pitcher is due to hit in the next inning. They know they'll have to pinch hit so they are trying to save a pitcher. Often is bad strategy, as here.

Wise fouls off a pitch that would have been ball 3. Then he pops out on a pitch in the same spot, again off the strike zone that would have been ball 3 (or ball 4 if he took both pitches).

Bad hitters too often swing at garbage out of the strike zone and as a result make too many outs. DeWayne Wise is no exception.

Joe Girardi is in his first year, first managing position. He is not a terrible manager. Just like Willie Randolph wasn't a terrible manager his first year with the Mets (as many on here claimed). Give him time and he'll be a good manager.

Neither of those pitches were even close to the strike zone. Plate discipline and strike zone judgement is about recognizing which pitches can be hit well, which pitches will be strikes but can't be hit well (and thus should be fouled off), and which pitches should be taken as balls.

Both of those pitches should have been taken as balls.

I said "hope," not reality.

There were no game threads a week ago. Tonight, there's an active game thread with the sub title "believe!"

They've brought hope back. Now, they're going to punish those who again began to believe. I'm crying "Danger, Will Robinson" to anyone who has emotionally invested themselves in this group again. Truth is, even if we were to win out, we still probably could not win this division.

24 errors in 24 games this month. The math is easy for the per game ratio... and almost unheard of in MLB these days.

One more error this month (is it likely to happen?!?!?) and they will have committed more than any other month this year. Had 24 errors in April, May and August. Most in a month since 28 errors in September 2004 (which included 3 games in Oct., 31 games total).

There DIPS ERA are basically identical. Similar HR rates, similar K:BB ratio.

Tankersley may have more potential because of his plus curve, but he's going to need to command his pitches better for that to happen. Right now he's not, making him similar to Bray, but I like his chances of improving more because of the huge K rate.
