The Phillies-Nationals game is in the second inning at midnight. This is after a 4 and a half hour rain delay. Does anyone know what the latest a east coast game has ended at? This one looks like it might last till 3 or maybe later if there are extras like wed. night. Im sure there will be lots of nats fans left at the end of this one.

Here is a shocker. The game is now almost in the 5th. Only four hits and the only run came on a Ryan Church solo shot. Must be an agreement between the players to swing for home runs as to not have any long innings. I guarantee the Nats would prefer getting home quickly as to actually winning. Gotta be a kangaroo court fine for any pitcher that walks anybody.

Also, is it common for players to have an agreement like that when a game has lasted as long as that one has or when there is such a blowout? I wouldn't be surprised by it, and we know that coaches put in subs when there are large leads, but I just haven't heard that often of an agreement to swing for the fences...I have a feeling I am taking that one too literally and if so, sorry bout that one.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Nats were thinking that. The Phils want to win this one in the worst way. I'm actually shocked that the Phils are losing now. I figure this is a game the Nats HATE to play. But as an NFL coach once said, "You play to win the game." So maybe they are doing that.

The Mets lost 4-3 to the Cardinals during a "long-distance" marathon night game on September 11th. After seven hours and twenty-five innings, the outing became the longest game to a decision in Major League history. In the end, New York had batted one-hundred three times and St. Louis was not far behind with ninety-nine plate appearances. A record one-hundred seventy-five official at-bats were recorded, with a Major League record of forty-five runners left stranded. Despite the historical moment, only a thousand fans were on hand when it finally ended at 3:13 a.m.

I think the two teams were looking at the fact that this was the Phillies last trip into DC and that the team would very likely have meaning for the
post-season, therefore, get the game instead of having to come back to DC to play it out. Had this been earlier in the year, they would have called it and rescheduled.

I don't know if they still do this but the American League had a curfew on their games. Like no inning could start past 1 a.m. or something like that.

That was a 5:45 rain delay. IIRC, it was scheduled as an afternoon game that turned into a night game played in large puddles with players leaving rooster tails.

Sounds like Opening Day this year. I think the only other time I left a game early other than Opening Day of this year was about 5 years ago when my girlfriend got hit on the shin with a foul ball. She was going to tough it out but after an inning or so she was in such obvious pain we left.
