Current 40 Man Roster

I just took a moment, in light of the Bubba Crosby signing, to look at the 40 man roster. Right now, if my count is right, there are 34 players listed on the 40 man roster, but two of them are on the 60 day (Ramierez and Claussen), so I believe they don't count towards the 40 man roster (or is that just during the season? - I don't think that's the case).

That leaves us at 32 players with Crosby. That leaves eight slots for trades, Free Agents or Rule V draftees. I think that leaves us with lots of flexibility.

Does that jibe with what others see?

(Note: There were three players placed on the 60 day who have declared Free Agency - Guardado, Mercker and Wilson).

I believe the DL only exists during the season. Or to put it another way, guys on the 60-day DL have to be reinstated onto the 40-man after the season, iirc.

Looks like you may be right. I guess players still rehabbing in the spring return to the 60 day list in the spring, but I still can't find anything that says that definitively. Still that leaves six slots.

Same here. I'm actually going into this offseason with a sense of optimism. I have no idea why but I just feel that way.

Winter's miserable enough on its own (except with beautiful snow when I don't have to drive in it!), so why not look for some sunshine for the ball season. Hope springs eternal, as the bard said.
