View Full Version : Guess Waynes Next Move!

I think Wayne is going to be pretty active this offseason, truthfully hes been pretty active so far. I know everyone wants to see big things right away but alot of teams have yet to do anything this offseason and we have already signed two players and made one trade. We havent even made it to the winter meetings yet which is usually what kicks off all the big moves and signings.

So I thought we could see who could guess the next move Wayne will make.

My Guess - Sign Phil Nevin to platoon at first with Hatteberg.

Eats too much at Thanksgiving and has to put on sweat pants (even money)

Sign a lefty relief pitcher (1:2 odds)

Throw a baby shower for Adam Dunn (betting closed on this one)

Get a list of teams that Jr. would approve in a trade (2:1)

Nope. Just a tongue in cheek comment. I was waiting for FCB to go wildly insane on that one.

I will say this. The more I think about what FCB says about "making progress" with the transactions ahead the more it makes absolute sense to me. Saving dollars or trading players to "replace" someone is not a step forward at this point.

Wayne is on the phone right now getting a grocery list from Mrs. Krivsky so she can make Thanksgiving dinner.

He'll be back to work shortly. :)

Do any of you think that maybe Krivsky has an ace up his sleeve for Redsfest next week? Although it's possible that both Zito and Schmidt are signed by next week, maybe Wayne-O wants a big splash to welcome back Redsfest? With the way this management operates, nothing is out of the realm of possibility

So true, but hey, games aren't being played until April 07. Is not that the moment to look back and say "has the team gotten better"? I'm not going to leap on Krivsky if he clears some cash to have some flexibility and visibility at the winter meetings.

signs foulke

When I read the title of this thread that was the first thing I thought before reading anyone's posts.

I honestly think WK is considering this so that he can tell the media and fans that he is fulfulling our needs at "closer" and that Foulke (despite his obvious decline and his well known apathy for baseball in general), is a "world series winner" and that we "got a bargain at 4 years 25 million."

i honestly can see this happening..and why not? everybody knows a sign of a good team is signing 20 average relievers in a span of 6 months. :bang:

My guess is that he signs an ex-Twin who plays the game right (in other words, he's past his prime and doesn't hit for average), maybe Matt Lawton, and then the player to be named later for LaRue turns out to be whomever the Reds select in the rule V draft from the Royals.

I don't know.. I was reading either on Reds.com or Cincinnati.com that they may use Stanton in the closer roll.. maybe much like last year with Weathers, Coffey, and Bray. I wouldn't be shocked if the Closer situation wouldn't be addressed till spring training and give some in-house guys a try(again). If not foresee over spending to obtain a closer whether it be through Trade or Free Agency.

Next move would.. since Wayne made a trade.. Gil.. then signed Crosby, A-Gon, and Stanton.. then dealt LaRue.. he must be going back to signing someone. I'm going out on a limb hear and saying it will be Craig Wilson so he can platoon with Hatteberg and also see time in the OF. But also now that I say that I have a gut feeling it could be a Starting Pitcher...

Here's what I think Wayne will do next (not necessarily what I would want to happen, it is just my guess):

Sign C Alberto Castillo (if he hasn't already)

Sign 1B/RF Craig Wilson to a 3 year deal worth $16 million

Then he will sign Octavio Dotel to a 2 year deal worth $6 million

Finally, he will (don't shoot me folks) trade Adam Dunn and Matt Belisle to the Tigers for SP Nate Robertson, OF Craig Monroe, and P Zach Miner

Sign Melton to an extension

Sign the old lefthander to a one year contract with a mutual option for 2008

I'll add my two cents:

Signs RHP Adam Eaton to a three year deal for 18 million.

Trades Griffey (he will waive his 10-5 rights) and cash to Detroit for RHP Fernando Rodney.

Signs OF Jose Guillen to a three year deal.

Well Houston just up the ante.. 73 Mil for 5 years (rotoworld.com). With LAA signing Matthews Jr. it just gave agents a reason to ask for money for their player.

Reds would be better off dealing for the following: Mench, Jenkins, Byrnes, Bradley, or Hinske. Also as posted on MLB4u.com (Rumors section) the the Reds are pursuing Craig Wilson. I'd rather spend the money on pitching (starter/closer).
