Time for the nominations.

The Categories from last year (any ideas for new categories this year?):

Most missed poster

Miss the daily Richard Hand expose on typing with both eyes closed? Wish Fox could still regale us with constant rumors from his unnamed baseball sources? Fiind yourself melancholy over the absense of a myriad of former posters? Who's missed most?

Best tag line

The tag line is that little thing at the bottom of some posts. No, not that little thing at the bottom; the other little thing. Who inspires best? Makes you laugh? Makes you scratch your head trying to decipher those in jokes that are sure to make sense if only you start licking toads.

Best Moniker

Like the understatement of princeton, that Ivy League professor of Reds-related knowledge? Or, Hey Kids! How about Krusty? Does one of the Teamsters make you think about things even before you read their posts? If so, show them you care!

Most Valuable Poster

Whose information do you read first, agree the most with, or disagree but read first anyway? Who finds things you'd never, ever get to read without their help? Who makes you think most?

Most Clever

Best use of poetry, tone, statistics, one-liners to get the point across. Who made a point this year that just made you stop whatever else you were doing and go "uh-huh".

Best Armchair GM

Who would you rather run the Reds than Jim Bowden? Who is the next Theo Epstein?

Best Trademeister

Who comes up with the best deals? Whether it be plausible or not, which of the ADD posters here entertains you with their constant tinkering with the Cincinnati roster?

Best Discussion

Which discussion throughout the year made you think the most? Made you turn to the most? Got the most response? Made you bang your head on the keyboard and curse the heavens because it came up so slow?

Worst Typist

Whether it be grammatical, misspellings, or unclear wording, who makes you scratch your head and wonder what they're taking?

Funniest

Who makes you shoot milk through your nose everytime they post? Who makes you giggle even before you open their posts?

Best Use of Statistics

Which sabre-head helps you understand the game best?

Most Long-winded

Who can't ever shut up, even though you already get the point and wish they'd just stop, they just keep going and going and going, even though they've already gotten across everything they wanted to say they also go off onto other tangents like that time I was sittin in my car and suddenly I thought of a great trade involving Danny Jackson and a gorilla except this gorilla is like the gorilla in Congo and have you ever seen that movie it's really not bad... Nevermind.

Most Positive

Begging the pardon of Rosy Red here, who's the rosiest of us all? Whose glass is consantly half full?

Most Negative

Who is the eeyore?

Best Use of an Emoticon

Who http://www.redszone.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif deserves http://www.redszone.com/forums/images/smilies/beerme.gif and http://www.redszone.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbup.giffor coming up with all the best of these little guys http://www.chriscaffery.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/dragon.gif http://www.chriscaffery.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_dorks.gif http://www.chriscaffery.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/lightsaber.gif out of all us posters.

Nicest

Who is the person most likely to give you the Junor Jersey off their back? Who makes you grin like a little kid?

Best Moderator

Who do you depend on the most? Which one of those guys seems to fix everything?

Best Chatter

Only those that have attended the chat room may vote in this highly contested award. (Haynes underwear will be given to the winner. But not Haynes' underwear.)

Most Off-Topic

I like potatoes!

And, I submit for new awards this year:

Best Newcomer

Who has joined Redszone in the last year and made a lasting impact? The Rookie of the Year.

Best Outsider

Favorite fan of a team other than the Reds

The Marty Brennamen Award

Who does the best job of play by play during the game threads?

The Old Red Guard Award

We all know the post. What was the most memorable post of the last year? The one that really made you think, reminisce or stand up and cheer.

Best Historian

Who does the best job of bringing back yesterday when baseball was a game and those who played it were gods?

Lifetime Achievement Award

Who has provided the most to Redszone for the duration of their time spent here? Someone who has been around since the early days and hasn't skipped a beat. The Frank Sinatra of Redszone.

Most Tired Topic of the Year

What one topic showed up in about 300 threads a day? The one that you swore you would go postal on someone if you saw one more thread about it ever again.

Most Clever: FCB. hands down. A sardonic wit.

Best Armchair GM: A bizarre amalgamation of SteelSD and Team Clark

Most missed

If you hang around long enough, this gets to be a long list. I miss creek a ton. I've been Jonesing to hear from Big Donkey for almost a year now. I keep hoping Steve4192 and RosieRed have new handles and that I'm just enjoying their stuff under different monickers, because they were two must-reads for me. I keep hoping that Red Storm or N.E.R.F. (New England Reds Fan) will re-emerge someday. And, of late, I really miss Steel.

Best monicker

Gandalf the Red, though I'm partial to Dunnomite as well

Most Valuable Poster

Cyclone's had a superhuman year. He's kicked us all up a notch.

Most Clever/funniest

Puffy, he's been quiptastic in 2006.

Best Armchair GM

Red Leader (and I'm sure Puffy will have something clever to say about that), RL habitually offers up good ideas and interesting perspectives.

Best discussion

The Redszone mock draft was a blast. Among other things, it helped identify just who in the heck all those draft prospects were.

Best use of statistics

Steel, he did fabulous job of demonstrating the effect of the Reds' big summer move.

Best newcomer

Ltlabner with shout outs to mth123, dabvu, Always Red, edabbs, Redsmetz and dougdirt

Lifetime achievement

It's not like anyone takes these seriously. It's just a way to have a little bit of fun for everyone who spends way too many work hours checking the site to see if the Reds have traded for another soft-tossing lefty. ;)

This is my first year hear at RZ so I don't feal right about commenting on some of these topics. However, here are my thoughts on some of them.....

Best tag line I really liked Kitty's won/loss tag line.

Best Moniker Harangatang

Most Valuable Poster WOY. Honerable mentions to Cyclone, RFS52, GAC, Spitball and RedsManRick

Most Clever Heath. Honorable mention to Johnny Footstool. I rarely agree with him, but he always makes me think, often times has a funny quip an I like his avitar.

Best Armchair GM All of Redszone rolled into one. I'm not copping out, but I've never been part of a forum with so many people with the singular focus of enjoying the Reds. The combination of the many skillsets here would make a killer GM.

Best Trademeister Well, the most active would be Krusty.

Best Discussion There was a thread about "the trade" a few days after it happened. People disagreed but it was an even, educational and eye opening discussion. I enjoyed it very much.

Worst Typist Sorry, Captian Morgan but sometimes I have no idea what you are posting. Honorable mention to.....myself. I am a horrible typist and speller.

Best Use of Statistics Cyclone.

Most Long-winded GAC, you are the man! Course, I can go on and on myself so I can't point the finger too much

Most Positive Redsmetz. Always chears me up.

Most Negative Sorry, FCB, but you get my vote. I respect your insights and appricate that you challenge my thinking, but somedays I think you could depress the entire Hallmark card writing team (except the condollences department, of course).

Best Use of an Emoticon Traderumor is pretty fond of them. (BTW - how do you get that "throwing up" icon?)

Nicest Many too choose from: Redsmetz, RFS, dman, GAC, Cyclone, Kitty, all of "the teams", Matt700wlw, Redsfanalways1966.

Best Moderator Paintmered.

Best Chatter Sorry, but I can't pick one. There was a great crew in the chat room last season. I spent many nights while traveling on business chatting away with Kitty, GAC, Strikes out Looking, Dabvu, Nate, Ridersin, GainesvilleRed, and I know I'm forgetting many others. Thanks guys for making my borning nights much more tollerable.

The Old Red Guard Award The thread about Cory Lidles plane crash is a moment(s) in time that I will never forget. Lots of people were chipping in bits of information as the story was unfolding then the horrible news came across.

Best Historian WOY

Lifetime Achievement Award Not sure I should vote since I haven't been around long. I will say that M2 and WOY are two that have always expanded my knowledge and forced me to think about what I was posting.

Most Tired Topic of the Year While there were some great conversations about it, frankly, "the trade" has about run its course with me. An honorable mention to any trade proposal concerning Adam Dunn

People I'm glad came over from Cincinnati.com this year Jimbo and Terminator came over from Cincinnati.com around the same time I did (Terminator a little sooner, I think). Anyway, glad they made it over. There might be more of you out there, but those are two folks I knew over there.

Danny Serafini
12-13-2006, 07:17 PM
I'm not going to vote on most of these because there are a lot people here who add a lot to this board, and I know I'd leave someone out and kick myself later. But I do have to vote on Best Moniker, because every time I see the name Javy Pornstache it makes me chuckle! And I want to say the Rookie of the Year would be impossible to decide, because we've added a number of wonderful posters this year.

Most missed poster

I really miss Cougarquest, Letsgojunior, Larkinfan, GeoJ, Stormy, Steve4192 and Creek... they were staples of the board and always a must read. Some check in from time to time, but not enough for my tastes.

Best Moniker

Corkedbat, Spitball, Boobhat, ScrapIrony…. These names crack me up

Most Valuable Poster

It’s really impossible to say who’s the most valuable. WOY, M2, Steel…. Those guys did most of the heavy lifting here this past year.

But Cyclone kicked it into a higher gear and was always there with brilliant statistical analysis and very sharp observation. He gets my vote this year.

Most Clever

Redsland and BCubb. Those two guys should consider getting a job where they have to write, and stuff. They both slay me, over and over again.

Best Armchair GM

Cincinnati Chili, Team Clark, Princeton, and Doc Scott. Love what they bring to the forum.

Best Trademeister

Doc Scott. Really a fine baseball mind. His blog is awesome, btw.

Best Discussion

The trade. We beat it to death, up one side and down the other. But at least every possible viewpoint was ‘cussed and discussed.

Funniest

Puffy, Red Leader, J McLain, Pedro, Wheels.. Not funny “ha ha”. Just funny. :p:

Best Use of Statistics

Cyclone and WOY. Best balanced use of stats on the board.

Most Long-winded

My good buddy GAC thinks he's getting paid by the word.

Most Positive

SuperBarry11, The teamsters, Sandy... great people

Most Negative

FCB wins this award every year. His passion for the game runs deep, and he isn't afraid to show his displeasure for what's going on. We need guys like this. He likes to act all tough, but he's really a very fine man who does a lot in his community. Someday, hopefully, the Reds will live up to the standards he expects and demands. Oh, wait..... they already did once, back in 1869.

Best Use of an Emoticon

Krono. Hope all is well, buddy.

Nicest

Sandy, Team Casey, Team Morris, Team Boone, Superbarry11, Vaticanplum, RedsBaron, GAC. What a fine group of people.

Best Moderator

I appreciate them all. They take a lot of crap with no reward.

Most Off-Topic

Every now and then a thread takes a wacky turn. Right now we have Vaticanplum trying to research architecture and being hijacked by flashbacks to Burger Chef. Talk about disjointed...and it's still an outstanding thread.

Best Newcomer

Vaticanplum blazed onto the scene with a passion and intensity that made many fans this year. She's got a broad range of interests, and always has something valuable to contribute. If she keeps up this pace, she will own the board very soon.

Best Outsider

MattyMo and Ramp

The Marty Brennamen Award

Caveat is the man.

Best Chatter

GAC is master of his domain.

The Old Red Guard Award

"How to identify Redszoners in public" by JMcLain. I don't know what year it was posted, but it is money, baby.

Best Historian

WOY gets my vote as the most accomplished historian here, among many worthy candidates. Every year he takes it to another level. His website is incredible. Anyone who hasn't checked it out is really missing something. He has the ability to put things in perspective with common sense, intelligence, and a scary warehouse of knowledge about the game we love.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Team Clark, Randy in Charlotte, RedsBaron, Ochre, Roy Tucker, GAC and MWM. I always look for everything any of these guys post.

Most Tired Topic of the Year

All the different flavors of "Dunn Sucks... Dunn is great"

I'm really sick of it all.

Being from Houston this board is my main source of information on my favorite professional sports team. Even during the slow times of the baseball season there are always posts on this board that stop and make me think. I especially enjoy reading posts about the Reds' minor league system, because to me prospects equal hope. So I want to say thanks to the many fine posters concerning the Reds' farm system. In particular major props to DougDirt.

Red Leader
12-14-2006, 10:04 AM
Most missed poster

I really miss Creek, CougarQuest, and lately Krono.

Best Moniker

Boobhat and Javy Pornstache and the ultimate for me. Both are absolutely genius inventions for names and make me laugh like a 12 year old looking at a "dirty" magazine everytime I see them .

Most Valuable Poster

So many. WOY, M2, Cyclone, dougdirt, OnBaseMachine, Steel, Doc Scott, Caveat Emporer, dabvu, registerthis, vaticanplum...I could go on for awhile. Lots of knowledgeable posters have displayed their knowledge over the last year.

But, if I had to choose one, like others have mentioned, Cyclone was "the man" this year. Tons of useful stats and explanations as to what they show and how they are relevant for analyzing whatever was being discussed.

Most Clever

Redsland and Natty Redlocks. Redsland, the stuff you post is gold. Natty, your song lyrics have been an absolute wonderful addition to Redszone for me.

Best Armchair GM

M2 and Doc Scott. Incredibile knowledge of everyone's teams, their strengths, weaknesses, their farm systems, who's overrated / underrated. I'm amazed by the information these guys hold in their noggin.

Best Trademeister

Move over, Krusty. Although he hasn't passed you in pure volume (who could?), I like the deals RedEye has proposed this year. All of them make sense and are realistic in nature.

Best Discussion

The Draft, and the Redszone draft. I've never been more prepared for a draft in my life thanks to all of the discussion and knowledge that was typed in those threads. The Minor League forum has been a huge success, IMO. These two threads are two shining examples of why that was.

Funniest

Puffy. Hands down. One of the funniest people I've ever come in contact with. This award should be re-named the Puffy Award. The quick-wit he displays along with the intelligence behind it, is priceless. I can't tell you the number of times people I work with have looked at me while I explode in laughter at one of his posts. Thanks, Puffy.

Best Use of Statistics

Agree with '62. Cyclone and WOY. Best balanced use of stats on the board.

Most Long-winded

GAC wins the award by default.

Most Positive

SandyD and vaticanplum get this award. They are both just happy people whose positive aura spills out onto the board when they post making you feel the joy that they possess..

Most Negative

FallsCityBeer. No competitiion, but that's not a bad thing all of the time. I enjoy your posts.

Best Use of an Emoticon

Krono. Another repeater. Krono's use of emoticons is unmatched.

Nicest

Sandy, Vaticanplum, Puffy, RFS62 are real good, nice people, but this award goes to Roy Tucker for me. Roy, the help you gave me this year will never be forgotten. I owe you big time. Thank you so much for your advice and wisdom. I'll never know how to thank you enough. It's funny how, if you spend enough time on these boards, some of these people almost feel like family to you. I'd say Roy is my 2nd Dad.

Best Moderator

paintmered.

Worst moderator

Me. I'll try to pick up the slack this coming year. For those that didn't know, I was appointed the moderator of the Minor League forum and there were problably 5-10 posters that spent more time in there than me. I promise, I'll do better next year.

Best Newcomer

Agree with '62 again: Vaticanplum. There was some pretty stiff competition this year as a lot of new posters were excellent additions, but vaticanplum was, IMO, the best.

Best Outsider

MattyMo

The Old Red Guard Award

"The trade" threads. Excellent discussions.

Best Historian

WOY. I don't know how he does it, but every year he gets better. I'm simply blown away with his knowledge.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Roy Tucker. I think I nominated M2, WOY, and '62 last year. This year Roy Tucker joins the "elite" for me.

Most Tired Topic of the Year

Adam Dunn.

I'd like to thank everyone on the board, especially those of you who contributed countless posts to the Minor League forum this year, as well as Boss and GIK. Another awesome year of Redszone.

I'm still wet behind the ears here, so I'm not going to vote on anything or anyone.

I just wanted to say that this is a tremendous place, a great resource for Reds fans, and fans of baseball in general. Thank you so much for those who run this board, and I would urge anyone who uses this board regularly to go and donate, so this resource remains as it is.

I thought I was a hard core baseball fan, until I "met" others on here, people who really do know the game in far more depth than me. Sometimes I come here and just read and learn, and on other days I participate more often, but I usually come here nearly every single day.

My eyes have been truly opened to what statistical analysis can tell you (which is much more than I ever dreamed it could) and what it cannot do- predict the future accurately.

I absolutely love the diversity of opinion here. If we all agreed on how to improve the Redlegs, then this would be a boring place! Sometimes I shake my head, often I laugh at the great humor, but I am never bored, and I always learn.

This place is a treasure, I'm glad I found it, and look forward to participating for years to come!:beerme:

You guys are kidding me, right? Of all the people that post regularly on the board, I'm the one who gets the credit? It's not like I possess any particular qualifications besides paying $22 a year for a domain name and having the ability to look stuff up on The Baseball Cube.

Anyway, I'm deeply flattered.

This is actually my least favorite: People crying over signing guys to minor league deals or players that we know won't factor and paying them the minimum and won't make the roster. The over reaction knee jerk response of any signing is very much over the top here.

Best Trademeister
Krusty for sheer volume. Trader Frank Lane would be proud.

Best Discussion
This is should be renamed the ‘About 10 of You Best Discussion Award’ :D

I too still consider myself a new comer and not versed enough to make these breakdowns. It is a great place and everyone makes it that.

Your check is in the mail, buddy.:beerme:

vaticanplum

I just tried to do this but I failed miserably. I'm so bad with names that I was trying to describe pictures and it was just awful. Also, I keep blanking on things that I know I have had strong opinions on at one time...I think I have killed my brain. Case in point: tagline. I know somebody has a tagline that absolutely kills me, but I have no idea who it is nor what it references. I'll probably remember it next June and have to bump this thread.

So my random notes:

I love, love, love the game threads, and I want to thank everybody who stops by and participates in them. They are the antithesis of all of this intellectual offseason analysis and I think they're a great release; I don't care how much they careen into directions unknown. I've never been a long-standing part of any message board before and those threads are the perfect example of why I've stayed on this one: sharing, if only briefly and anonymously (and one time that I remember, drunkenly), the joy and agony of following your team with other people who do too. Those threads saved me from the world's most boring job, and therefore potentially suicide, more times than I can count.

I also think that those threads contain quite a few of the greatest one-liners on the board, including what was, for some inexplicable reason, my favorite post of the year. Esteban Yan was self-destructing, and Pedro broke out with "I Yan't Believe It". This made me giggle for about three weeks. I'm laughing at it now.

Off-topic: the Cincinnati thread that Heath mentioned, and also the African watering hole.

I hate it when people attack others' fandom. My nomination for most tired topic of the year. It's pointless and irrelevant and there's no resolution to it.

I also want to say how much I appreciate the minor league forum. I don't even read it as much as I should, but I know that it is the best collection of such information that I'm going to get anywhere, and the ones who are big posters there are people who are really putting time and thought into keeping the rest of us up to speed on something more obscure. dougdirt, Doc Scott...well, here I am with my name problem again, but the rest of you know who you are.

My favorite username is tuna.

I wish superbarry11 would post more.

I thought I had more to say but I forget.

EDIT: I already remembered something I forgot.
Best use of an emoticon: anybody who can manage to squeeze in this dude
but he has to be used sparingly or he loses his power.
And also continuing with the game thread props, Matt700wlw and his jumping home run smiley faces. I used to loathe emoticons, but I've come around and I think matt and those jumping dudes are responsible. It's very Pavlovian; with the way he uses them so consistently and always for the same thing (homers), I now associate them with joy. Which I guess is not so weird considering that they're jumping smiley faces, but even so.

Very disappointed that no one has nominated me for best-dressed. I know you can't see me and everything, but it's all I aspire to.

I'm going to give this a whirl here. As a mod, I don't want to appear like I'm playing favorites so I'm limiting my awards to just a few categories.

Most missed poster: Creek, darlin', I know you're out there. I can see you lurking on here. Post every once in awhile, would you? Adam would want you to. ;)

Best Discussion: I have to say that the best thread on here - besides any thread that had to do with Burger Chef ;) - would be when GAC's house burnt down and the Zone pulled together in support of GAC and his family and how folks gave him all kinds of stuff to replace what he had lost. I'm proud to be a member of a community that was so giving to someone who lost pretty much all his material posessions.

Best Newcomer: I'm not going to go with a who here but a what. I think the best newcomer is obvious: The minor league forum. I can't say I frequent the forum but it provides a great service for people on here.

Most Tired Topic of the Year: I have to say The Trade.

Best Discussion - I actually like the Kearns trade rumor thread before the trade actually happened

I just posted something I saw on CNNSI and I expected it to bring in a few replies and to quickly be forgotten. It truly amazed me what happened. It was almost scary. Allow me to say as a newbie who was introduced to this site by TRF this year that I have enjoyed my time here very much. If I ever insulted anyone or treated anyone on this with disrespect I am sorry. It was not intentional. Thank all of you very much for the entertainment. I may be a traditionalist but all of you are all right in my book. I would also like to ask that in the spirit of the season that Steel be allowed to post again. Happy Holidays to all!

Most missed poster - SteelSD – A smart, insightful, and passionate fan of the Reds and baseball in general. I learned a lot from him, and hope he’ll be back. I also miss RedStorm and REDREAD.

Best tag line – Johnny Footstool (quoting RFS62) - "1908, you pretentious, know-nothing, poseurs. You dumb-asses think a goat has cursed you. That's how much you know about baseball." -RFS62

Best Moniker – RedsManRick – It reminds me of a comedian on the Bob & Tom Show named Greg something. He played the clarinet, thus earning himself the nickname Flute Man Greg.

Most Valuable Poster In past years I’ve forced myself to name just one person here, but I can’t do it anymore. There are too many people who are must-reads for me. Among them: M2, westofyou, Caveat Emperor, Cyclone792, cincinnati chili, MWM, and jmcclain19.

Most Clever – Puffy – He’s good for at least one chuckle a day. Chip R, BCubb2003, and pedro are also high on my list.

Best Armchair GM – M2 – Knowledgable, outspoken, logical, and passionate. I’d be happy to serve as his field manager.

Best Discussion - GAC’s house burning down – First a frightening few days, followed by months of reminders about the good people we have here at RedsZone. Other good threads include the explications of various trades, and, of course, the Dan O’Brien Fired! thread.

Best Use of Statistics – westofyou – Sometime’s he’ll simply do a drive-by in a thread by posting nothing but that stats that just happen to show how insane the previous poster is. I love those threads. Steel and Cyc also deserve mention.

Most Positive – GAC – “Nobody scores on Danny Graves.”

Most Negative – Falls City Beer – Just because you don’t like what he says doesn’t mean he’s wrong.

Best Use of an Emoticon – :runaway: - I love this little guy. I wish I could use him more.

Nicest – KittyDuran – What a genuinely nice and giving person. She’s one of RedsZone’s treasures.

Best Moderator – Chip R – He keeps order with precious little yelling, and even has a little fun along the way.

Best Newcomer - mth123 – Lately I’ve apparently been trying to rep him a lot, because every time I do, the board tells me I have to spread it around a bit before I can come back to him.

Best Historian – westofyou – Can there be any doubt?

Lifetime Achievement Award – RFS62 – He’s an Episode IV Obi Wan Kenobi in an Episode II world.

RFS62's.

Best Moniker

RFS62 - Reds Fan Since 1862. How can you beat that?

Most Valuable Poster

RFS. Even though he is old and senile, he still has just enough baseball savvy to let you know that back in the day (way, way, way back) he had a brilliant baseball mind.

Most Clever

RFS62. A madman. When he told the story about the time he stole that cow, and his friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with him, cowboy. If the two of us got together, forget it.

The "New James Bond??????" with the 6 question marks at the end by you guessed it - RFS62. I mean 6 question marks were the absolute perfect number to convey the question we all had with the so-called new james Bond, freakin perfect!

Worst Typist

RFS - in his defense though, neither typewriters nor keyboards were invented when he was growing up, so we need to cut him some slack here.

Funniest

Red Leader - just cause of all the props he gave me earlier.

Best Use of Statistics

RFS62.

Most Long-winded

RFS62. Get him talking about Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin and he just won't shut up.

Most Positive

RFS62. Always stays positive no matter how bad the Reds are.

Most Negative

RFS62. Never is positive no matter good the Reds season is going.

Best Use of an Emoticon

RFS - how he uses the  when his senileness kicks in is amazing.

Nicest

RFS. Always a kind word - even though he relates all life's problems with a scene from his favorite movie (Brokeback Mountain), he's still a nice guy.

Best Moderator

The REAL TeamClark!! I won't say anymore as I might drive myself mad thinking about it. Krono and Creek also.

Best tag line

ChipR, whenever I hear someone say that so and so is untouchable or whenever I hear someone complain about the Reds I take solice in knowing that the game is the draw. The players and their achievements are just the cherry on top.

Best Moniker

harangatang. I thought this as soon as we got Aaron myself, so to see someone with the tag line was pretty cool.

Most Valuable Poster

TeamClark (Great Source of all things we may not know otherwise), Cyclone792 (Great use of statistics and puts it in a way us morons can understand), Falls City Beer (The great stimulator, albeit in a way I don't always agree with, he keeps the debate raging) TradeRumor and Redsland also get mentioned here.

Most Clever

George Anderson:

Best Armchair GM

Most Negative

FCB is too easy to target. So I am going to go with someone who I have noticed just recently has gotten awfully negative. edabbs44: lighten up ed it's baseball.

Best Use of an Emoticon

Paintmered: Not so much emoticons as his avatar, that too me is a the funniest avatar and an unofficial emoticon IMHO.

Nicest

Max Venable is a really nice person, just talk to him.

Best Moderator

Paintmered is who I seem to notice alot and he is one of the few that I think "moderator" when I see his posts.

Best Trademeister

See above. Let Krusty whip 'em out. Let Steel,Cyclone and WOY crunch the numbers and analyze it. Then run it past M2 for final reasoning.

Ah, so it's RFS(18)62. I get it- that guy's old.

I'll give this a try, but honestly I can never remember who is who on this board.

Most missed poster

Krono, really gone? Crap.
And I have given up hope that RedStorm will ever show up again. That guy had serious chops.

Best tag line

I never really understood what a tagline was.

Best Moniker

Ditto.

Most Valuable Poster

Creekie gets my vote, but there are about twenty posters who make up the heart of the board who deserve mentions. They are the folks who post with clarity, who keep their heads when others are losing their's, and who never post things they wouldn't say to a friend face to face. Without them, this board is just Cincy.com all over.

Most Clever
It comes in all flavors. WOY has a way of dropping the right verbal bomb or stat. Redsland is a must read, always. M2 and NWM...I can never remember who is who. Always clever.

Best Armchair GM

M2

Best Trademeister

This award has always and will always belong to Krusty.

Best Discussion

Tough one, there. For me it depends on the circumstances. When the Reds are playing, I'd say the best discussion is a game thread or the chat. Otherwise, my favorite discussions are the ones that just go everywhere, like our old last poster threads. This stuff brings out the real funny stuff.

Worst Typist

Best Outsider

Don't get this one.

The Marty Brennamen Award

I'll second the nomination of Caveat here.

Best Historian

We should stop awarding this one- WOY has it locked up.

Lifetime Achievement Award

RFS- he's been here forever (because he's really old, evidently). He's a pillar of the RZ community.

Although I still feel like a newcomer lol. I felt the need to post nominations on a few of the subjects I know enough to form an opinion on.:)

Most missed poster: Has to be Creek, and for this I do blame Adam Dunn;) (let the gossip begin!)

Best Discussion: Absolutely loved the adopt a prospect thread for personal reasons lol. Close tie was doing Redleaders MLB draft.

Best Newcomer: Vatican Plum she was an absolutely wonderful addition to this board.

Most Tired Topic of the Year: I have to say The Trade.

Most Valuable Poster : Woy for his insight and well balanced thoughts.

Most Clever – Puffy – The man is flat out walking fun and oozing with sarcasm and sweaty tequila :beerme: :D

Nicest – KittyDuran – Fantastic woman who made a impression on me in my very first days here. the world is a better place and Redszone has its true gem in her.

Best Play by play in game threads: This is the easiest no doubter of them all Caveat emperor. The early threads in season before your bar exam are of Vin Scully praise. Sharp wit, fluidity, and just enough detail to make you feel the angst during painful moments that happened during the game.

Minor League stats and info guru: DougDirt you are fantastic! I know its your passion but still it takes time and effort. You did that for many of us and for that I commend you and you are my MVP for this season:beerme:

Best Newcomer

Great Rookie crop this year! Honorable mentions to edabbs44, Reds44, Ltlabner, redsmetz and a ton of others. My vote goes to dougdirt, who has practically taken over the Minor League Talk forum with incredible passion.

Best Outsider

MattyMo4Life and Astrobuddy come to mind.

The Marty Brennamen Award

Caveat Emptor is absolutely incredible at this. But Kudos to everyone who tried their hand at the PBP (myself included). It's not easy and it's valuable for those who may not be able to get information on the game otherwise (blackouts, traveling, etc.)

The Old Red Guard Award

I just wanted to chime in and put in a few votes:

Most Valuable Poster

As great a year Cyclone has had, I have to give it to Team Clark. First of all, he adds a dimension to the board that would otherwise be lacking if he weren't here. I enjoy his ability to give us the inside view of the game. Second, he did a great job on those podcasts and took a lot of input from Redszone. I hope he finds the time to keep up with those. Great job, TC. Keep up the good work.

Best Use of Stats

Cyclone hands down. He's really good at getting you to think and I think he's had some HOF worthy stats posts this year.

Nicest

Kitty Duran, hands down. Who else goes through the trouble of getting all those extras from the giveaway nights and offering them up for those of us who can't make it to the games? Kitty isn't just nice, she is a genuine good soul.

Best Newcomer

I would consider vaticanplum for this award. As a September call-up from last year, she really came on this season. She's my vote for Redszone ROY. LtlAbner made a good showing too.

See, your niceness betrays you, VP. You probably should have told me to get my wrinkly butt out of your business and called the mod police on me. :)

Modesty is a virtue, too, my dear (note fatherly tone), but as a father of two fantastic teenage girls, I'll tell you what I tell them: DON'T SELL YOURSELF SHORT.

What we know from your interaction on this board:
- You can spell :)
- You can articulate an idea or thought (i.e. you're smart)
- You're insightful
- You're respectful and open-minded.
- You're nice

and I can go on...but that puts you ahead of 95% of what's out there (being a REDS fan is a plus also). Set your standards high and don't settle (professionally or in your personal life).

Now I can blush...

Thank you for the kind words. Quite humbling actually. I have always enjoyed posting here. There are relly great people here who inspire you to put aside your own way of thinking. I really admire that and have learned an immeasurable amount about the game due to those folks. Just when you think you know a lot about the game....

We have not forgotten about the Podcasts. We have had a lot of issues with the Host. I have several shows "in the can" that we will put up once our host conversion is complete. They really are a lot of fun to do.

I have to be honest, redszone has taught me alot of things about baseball. I have been a member since 2003 (I think), but this is the 1st year I really got into posting. I probably learned more about baseball this year then the previous 15 years of my life combined. If you read enough and have an open mind, you can really learn alot from the posters on this board.
