Darin Erstad????

Hes looking for a job, coming back from an injury. Could be a cheap pickup with some upside. He could take over center with griffey moving to right. Erstads always been a pretty good hitter and fielder, if healthy I think he could help us.

We have two internal options, Freel and Denorfia who are better than Darin Erstad.

Erstad has had three good offensive years, the last one occurring in 2000. He has been exceptionally awful in 7 of his 11 years and somewhat adequate in the last (although I'd say adequate by CF standards; unfortunately he primarily played 1B that year (2004)).

From everything I have read he is no longer a viable centerfielder and for that matter first base. That would be a disaster for the Reds. Better off with Freel than Erstad!

I admire Erstad, too. If you met him, I bet you would, as well. He is easygoing, friendly and very community oriented. He is on the downside of his career, because of injuries, but he will always be admirable for the role he played for a WS winning team, as he should be.

Had him on my MVP Baseball reds for a few seasons :) I played him at 1B.. which is a posistion he can also play.. so i see we could use him.. but chances are WK wont sign him

He has shown an ability to get on base in the past, that's the only upside that I see. I woudn't do anything, but maybe give him an invite to spring training.

He's been way overpaid, to be sure. I never understood why the Angels moved him out of center field, where he was pretty good, to a position where his bat wasn't even adequate. I guess there must have been some sort of health issue. Otherwise, it's one of the more inexplicable things a team has chosen to do in recent years.

If he could still play a good CF and hadn't just seen his OBP crater, he wouldn't be a bad bench option. But as a first baseman he has no value at all as far as I'm concerned.

Erstad is a robotic out machine he either flies to right or grounds to second. The Reds would do better with the corpse of Deron Johnson
