IF I were WK I would offer harang a long time deal that consists of 4 years with a 5th year club option.I give him this:
07-5.5 mil.
08-7.5 mil.
09-9 mil.
10-10 mil.
and a club option worth 12 mil. in 2011 or a 1 mil. buyout.I think this is a long term deal both teams can live with. Not to high to pay and not to high to trade off it needs be.It would be a total of 33 mil over 4 years with a option or 44mil. over 5 years if the option is picked up.I think this would get it done and it would be great if it happens.

That's not bad. I might offer him something similar in length with either a mutual or a club option for the 4th year. Perhaps start with $6M this year, $9M the next, $12M for the 3rd year and $15M if the option is picked up for the 4th year.

That sounds about right...

3/24. 5-8-11 and a club option for a 4th at 12.

Give him what he wants. I don't think he is a guy that is a high risk of injury, (see Scott Williamson) and his willingness to get better won't make him rest on his laurels. He is a guy worth every penny.

He's a pitcher -- therefore he's a high injury risk. I'd go three guaranteed at 5/8/11 with a 12 mil mutual option.

This would be a great deal for the Reds but why would Harang be interested? The salary you've proposed for 2007 and 2008 look to be in the ballpark of what he'd get in arbitration but the numbers after that are well below his fair market value. If the Reds are serious about keeping Harang longterm they're probably going to have to make an offer like the one Chip R proposed.

Anything more than a 3 or 4 year contract is a risk.

With the money getting thrown around in FA for pitchers, I have a feeling if we're not offering at least 30M over 3 to start, we will see Aaron Harang in a different uniform sooner than later.
