Excitement about the early performances of Josh Hamilton and Brandon Phillips leads me to wonder about whether or not any statistical research has been done correlating spring training statistics with the regular season. Conventional wisdom has it, of course, that "spring games have nothing to do with the regular season."

Is this true? Anyone got some info that proves the case either way?

Thanks in advance...

Very good blog post on that.. (http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/story/2007/2/28/11030/7931)

I happen to think that you get alot of major league experience (like the blog poster said Doug M.) hitting lower level pitchers with little "stuff".

You do however get guys like Votto, Hamilton and Phillips, hitting the Major League pitchers well..

Does it translate? Hard to tell, I would say it depends on the player and then the talent of his competition. (IE Would Josh rake against Chris Carp. like he does against say Doug Davis?)

All good questions..

I guess our best answer is waiting and finding out..atleast this way it becomes more interesting.
