SARASOTA, Fla. -- Didn't head out to Bradenton for the day game, but these guys did:

Hopper 8
Gonzalez 6
Phillips 4
Conine 3
Denorfia 7
Gil 5
Wise 9
Moeller 2
Saarloos 1

Tonight's lineup is:
Crosby 8
Hatteberg 3
Encarnacion 5
Dunn 7
Valentin 2
Bellhorn 4
Bruce 9
Castro 6
Livingston 1

The guys suiting up for both games: Gil, Janish, Machado, Votto, Denorfia, Hopper, Wise, Conway, Hannigan, Jorgensen

Also, Lohse said he'll be starting Saturday's game against the Red Sox.

They musta sent the Stoppables over to Bradenton. Final: 13-1. 20 hits for the Buccos.

Saarloos went four innings, gave up seven hits and five runs. But he was better than Mike Stanton. He gave up five hits and four runs in an inning. It took 2 2/3 innings for Wilson to give up four runs and did it on eight hits. But Michael Gosling pitched well. He got an out on the only batter he faced.

Jay Bruce had a hit in two at-bats.

Tyrell Godwin had a sac fly, scoring Moeller.

Jerry Narron on the day's first game: "It looked about like the boxscore." In other words, ugly.

Although the wind was blowing out in Bradenton today, Narron said Cota's 3-run homer was legit.

Hamilton is a scratch for today. His shin splints are still bothering him. Crosby moves to center and Jay Bruce is in right.
Should be interesting.

I am pretty excited about this. Of all the top end prospects, he was the only one who has not seen time in spring training from the 2005 draft (when i say top I mean, Maybin, McCutchen and Upton). Hopefully he can play and get 3 or 4 at bats and get a few hits.

Top 1: It's a bad sign that I'm already yawning. So tired. And we have a day game tomorrow, so my alarm is going to go off at 6:45 a.m. And I've made two commitments for tomorrow night. I'm really going to be yawning. Ugh. But I'm sleepin' like a mofo Saturday morning. McCutchen singles to left. 21st hit of the day for Pirates off Reds pitching. Another single to left. Bay hits a liner to short Castro drops it, but is able to force McCutchen at third. FC for Bay. Ronny Paulino puts one over Bubba's head in center. Bubba misudged it and tried to dive, but couldn't get it. 2-0 Pirates. Nady strikes out looking. Livingston got a bit of a gift from the man in blue. Eldred walks. FC 6-4. Pirates 2, Reds 0

Bottom 1: So, your bottom of the inning Pirate joke: What has 8 arms, 8 legs and 8 eyes? 8 Pirates. BUBBA ALERT! Bubba's leading off for the Redlegs. Bubba flies out to center.

Signing Stanton was a waste of money... We already had Cormier, Bray, Shack, Coutlangus... All who could do just as well as Stanton will... I just hope we don't give Burton back to Oak, or send Salmon, Saarloos, or Livingston to AAA because of Stanton or Cormier...

dougdirt

Stanton will be 10 times better than Cormier this year. Stanton at least misses bats at times. Cormier struck out less than 4 batters per 9 innings last season. I dont even know how to explain how poor that is.

I think it would be a definite mistake to send live young arms back to the minors but unfortunately Salmon and Coutlangus have options. Burton no doubt will be traded to us in some deal but the price might have gone up considering his performance. I would like to see Livingston one or two more times before making a judgement on him. He did hav 4 K's today but he also gave up 8 hits.

It's nice to be talking about having options. It wasn't too long ago that the Reds had nothing at the major league level and nothing down in the minors to bring up.
