Just announced this afternoon:

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Bengals won’t waste any time getting national exposure at Paul Brown Stadium. A league source confirmed here Monday at the NFL meetings that Cincinnati opens the season in its first-ever national-television opener in a Monday night game on ESPN against defending AFC North champion Baltimore.

"That is something that pleases us very much," said Bengals President Mike Brown after emerging from a morning meeting at The Arizona Biltmore where the owners were told the schedule of the opening weekend. The entire schedule is to be released April 5.

The NFL has released this part of the schedule from week 1 and Thanksgiving. I can't wait to be at the Monday night opener this year. That being a doubleheader on MNF means that Monday night game will start at 7 PM ET if it is like the DH they did this year on the first Monday.

The rest of the schedule will come out in April.

Week 1
Thursday Night: Saints at Colts (NBC)
Sunday: Bears at Chargers (FOX)
Sunday Night: Giants at Cowboys (NBC)
Monday Night: Ravens at Bengals and Cardinals at 49ers (ESPN doubleheader)

Thanksgiving
Packers at Lions (FOX)
Jets at Cowboys (CBS)
Colts at Falcons (NFL Network)

So does that mean the West Coast will get the the Cards/49er's (:barf:) and the Bengals game will be blacked out?

IIRC, last year there was a staggered start, with the early game beginning around 6:30 or 7 Eastern. I caught the end of the second game at a sports bar after a late softball game.

Looks like Joe Theismann got replaced by Ron Jaworski.

Why should the NFL reward the Bengals with a MNF home opener? They've really made the league and themselves look bad over the past few years.

Maybe they were impressed with the Bengals vs Ravens prime-timer last season. I know I was.

Exactly. It's all about ratings.

It's about the star power. Plese don't tell me the NFL should banish the Bengals to the 1:00 game with Don Bebe and Steve Tasker every Sunday because guys like Frostee Rucker, Mathias Askew, Reggie McNeil, and even Chris Henry screw up. I'm pretty sure their star power of Palmer, Johnson, and TJ is what sells the Bengals to network execs.

By that logic what are the Cowboys (TO saga), Bears (Tank Johnson anyone?), and Colts (Dominc Rhodes- although he has since signed elseware)doing on primetime? Those stories sure weren't all roses for the league.
