BP is gonna have to rake in that 3 hole for it to stick. I think he is poised for a big season though. I would prefer EE cleanup, but Jerry has to break up his lefties I guess. EE needs baserunners!

I have to admit...although I'm obviously excited for Opening Day, I'm also a bit bummed as well. This is the first time in the past 4 years that I will not be a part of the Reds Organization, therefor I won't be at the game or down on the field. Also, this is the first time in my life that I'm away from Cincinnati for Opening Day. I did in fact take the day off from the Pirates though and I will be watching it on tv. I only got 6 hours of sleep too, so I'm tired, but ready for the game.

Anyway, it's great to be a Reds fan despite the low expectations that the media is putting on the team. Let's hope for a win today and a strong run in the division.

For those of you going to the game, have a good time and send me some pictures from your cell phones, lol...seriously. If anyone wants to send some pics, PM me and I'll give you my number!

Happy Opening Day everyone!

You Smell that? You smell that?
It's baseball, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of baseball in the morning. One year, 'bout 17 years ago, we had a team that wasn't supposed to do anything. No team could beat us, though - not one. You get that combination of newly mowed grass, spit, spilled pop and the body odors of tens of thousands of screaming fans...you know that smell. Smelled like... victory. Someday this season's gonna end...

A few tidbits from Fay's blog:

Narron on closer, Hamilton

Just got through the pregame talk with Jerry Narron. Two things of note:

--I asked who would close today if they had a one-run lead going into the ninth. "David Weathers." He later added that Jon Coutlangus could start the ninth if a left-hander leads off.

--He hopes to get Josh Hamilton a start this week, probably against Jason Marquis.

The steam boat thing on the top of the batter's eye looks good. Looks like a very cool view from the decks around it. They added historic pictures to the Reds clubhouse. Gives us something to look at while we're killing time.

ESPN's probables show him Thursday, but they also still show Milton, FWIW.

CBS has him facing Lohse Thursday. I can't imagine why he's going before Hill, but that's just me.

Weathers is the best the choice for the 9th as the roster currently stands. Interesting that Coutlangus would be the lefty 9th inning guy and not Stanton.

From ESPN's Daily Diamond:

Cubs (Carlos Zambrano) at Reds (Aaron Harang), 2:10 p.m. ET, ESPN2
The National League's top five pitchers in strikeouts in 2006 are all starting on Opening Day, and this game features two of them. Harang led the group with 216 K's, while Zambrano ranked fourth with 210, including 36 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings against the Reds last season. Newest Cub Alfonso Soriano makes his Chicago debut in Great American Ball Park, where he went just 1-for-11 last season.

Let's hope Harang can continue Fonsi's lack of success at GABP.

Let's hope Harang can continue Fonsi's lack of success at GABP.

Heres some stuff I found on Fox Sports website:

Zambrano is 8-5 with a 2.80 ERA and 1.26 whip against the Reds.
Harang is 5-1 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.24 whip against the Cubs.

Soriano will likely be seeing Harang, Arroyo and Lohse this series:
Soriano vs Harang: (.000 AVG) 0 for 3 with 2 Ks
Soriano vs Arroyo: (.050 AVG) 1 for 20 with a Double, 2 RBIs and 8 Ks
Soriano vs Lohse: (.542 AVG) 13 for 24 with 2 Doubles, 4 HRs and 10 RBIs

I assume this is the running commentary thread...is someone going to do a Play-by-play thread? I'm stuck at work at the moment, so a PBP-only thread would be nice. :)

I agree, if someone who is watching the game would like to keep up with a pbp only thread that would be much appreciated. Seeing how this ones already 5 pages long I imagine it will be hard to follow the play-by-play. Its tough to follow when there is a page of comments for every play.

I love the ease in Harang's delivery. It's a big reason why he's so effective. He looks like he's doing slow toss and the ball just zips in there.

Don't worry. The Cincinnati mayor was just "working on a few things."

Derek Lee scares me more than anyone else on the Cubs.

The fact that he's a giant doesn't hurt either. Easy motion, different arm angles, and a tall frame give him the advantage before the ball's even been released.
