The plan may have been for Junior to take today off, thus getting Hamilton a start. Junior may have told Jerry he wanted to play, thus scrapping Hamilton getting a start.

If Junior feels he needs to prove he can play a day game after a night game this could be a very big year for him. We've all seen how he performs with a chip on his shoulder.

With Griffey, Dunn and Valentin in the lineup, Hamilton is the only lefty on the bench. Righties -- Castro, Moeller, Conine. Ugh.

I don't know. I was afraid this would happen. They talk a good game about Jr. getting a day off every now and then but they always put him in there when he says he can go. Admirable on the part of Jr. to want to play all the time but Even the good Lord rested on Sunday. It's a perfect situation to put Josh in there against a righty who gives up a lot of hits. But I guess Josh will have to wait to pinch hit against Wuertz again. :(

Hamilton's under the weather. He hasn't felt great in a couple days but feels really crappy today. His wife left the game last night with it, and now it's got him. It's been going around his home.

He may get to pinch hit or play late in the game if he feels up to it...and there's a chance he may not even make it to the game.

Unfortunate, but it happens.

This is according to the pregame you've yet to hear. :D

I went to Baseball-Reference.com out of curiosity to see how many different lineups the Big Red Machine employed - especially the 1975/1976 versions. This is because I remember Sparky Anderson saying how nice it was to run out the same lineup night after night. In fact, this never really happened. In 1975 Sparky used 103 different lineups. The most common lineup was used just 7 times. In 1976 it was a little better. He used only 96 different lineups, with the most common lineup being used 8 times. This is surprising to me.

Narron said Hamilton wasn't feeling well. Hamilton's wife had to leave the game last night in the second inning. He thought it was food poisoning, but maybe not. I didn't see Josh in the clubhouse today, but he had his clothes in his locker. Jerry never said yesterday that Hamilton was going to start, just that he was thinking about it.

It's Narron's decision who plays and who doesn't. If he doesn't have the stones to bench Jr. then it's Narron's fault, not Jr.'s. It's a moot point now that Josh is sick but if Narron had the stones to move him to RF, he should also have the stones to give him a day off even if Jr. says he's 100% and wants to play.

I don't believe in rooting for players on the Reds to fail, but I may make an exception here. If Milton has a Paul Wilson-style 10 ER, 0 outs performance then maybe, just maybe, he'll only be permitted to lose one game for the club single-handedly this season rather than being trotted out there 10-15 times.

My guess would be Coutlangus or possibly Santos, though Santos likely at least earned himself another appearance with his performance last night. I'd be shocked if Coutlangus doesn't get into either today's game or tomorrow night's game. I'd have to believe the Reds will get Coutlangus out there at least once before sending him down.

Unloading Cormier is obviously my vote, but that's a bit more difficult.
